图片Abstract:French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi recently announced a collaboration with U.S.-based AI biotech company Earendil LabsReach a new collaboration, with a $160 million upfront payment and near-term milestone payments, to jointly advance the development of multiple bispecific antibody drugs for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. This collaboration is worth up to 2.56 billion US dollars in total.Sanofi will lead the subsequent R&D and global commercialization, while Earendil is expected to receive subsequent milestone payments and sales royalties of up to a low double-digit percentage. This marks the second collaboration between the two parties since April 2025, demonstrating Sanofi's commitment to strengthening its presence in the autoimmune field.

Cooperation Upgrade: From Bispecific Antibody Single Product to Multi-Pipeline Layout

This collaboration is not the first time the two parties have joined hands. In April 2025, Sanofi acquired the global exclusive rights to two bispecific antibodies from Earendil for $125 million. HXN-1002 targets α4β7 and TL1A for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, while HXN-1003 focuses on TL1A and IL23 for the treatment of colitis and skin inflammation.

The new agreement further expands on this basis, with Sanofi leveraging Earendil's AI drug discovery platform to advance multiple bispecific antibody projects simultaneously. Dr. Peng Jian, CEO of Earendil, stated that the collaboration with Sanofi provides the company with the opportunity to apply its technology to a broader range of autoimmune disease targets. By combining advanced predictive protein modeling with high-throughput experimental validation, the screening and optimization of bispecific antibody candidates can be performed more efficiently and precisely.

Notably, Earendil is affiliated with Helixon Therapeutics, which also focuses on machine learning protein drug design. The company recently completed the first patient dosing in the Phase I clinical trial of HXN-1001, an anti-TL1A monoclonal antibody that shows promise for treating inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis.

Billions in Investment: Sanofi Makes a Strong Push into the Autoimmune Arena

In the past year, Sanofi has made frequent moves in the fields of autoimmune diseases and immunology, triggering a wave of intensive investments. In addition to two collaborations with Earendil Labs, the company also reached an agreement with Nurix for $480 million to acquire a degrader targeting “undruggable” transcription factors, and partnered with Dren Bio for $1.6 billion to develop a CD20-targeted antibody for B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

By the end of 2025, Sanofi further deepened its collaboration with Dren Bio by injecting an additional $100 million to jointly develop the next generation of B-cell depletion therapies for the treatment of various autoimmune diseases. A series of large-scale deals indicate that Sanofi is rapidly expanding its pipeline through external partnerships to address gaps in its own expertise in related fields.

AI Empowerment: New Trends in Collaboration in the Biopharmaceutical Industry

In this collaboration, AI technology has become the core link. Earendil Labs has gained Sanofi's favor with its AI-driven next-generation biologic therapy R&D capabilities, as its technology platform can significantly improve the R&D efficiency of bispecific antibody drugs. As machine learning applications in protein design, target screening, and other fields continue to mature, AI biotech companies have become highly sought-after partners for pharmaceutical giants.

For Sanofi, cooperation with AI enterprises can not only accelerate the R&D process by leveraging external technologies but also reduce early-stage R&D risks. For biotech companies like Earendil Labs, partnering with pharmaceutical giants can provide sufficient financial support while utilizing their mature R&D systems and commercialization capabilities to bring innovative drugs to market more quickly.

Industry insiders pointed out that the recent collaboration, valued at 2.5 billion US dollars, once again confirms the enormous market potential in the field of autoimmune diseases and highlights the core value of AI technology in the biopharmaceutical industry. In the future, with the implementation of more cross-disciplinary collaborations, the treatment of autoimmune diseases is expected to achieve new breakthroughs.
