On February 25, 2019, the Beijing Guangdong Enterprise Chamber of Commerce Health and Medical Theme Forum and 2019 Spring Tea Gathering, co-hosted by the Beijing Guangdong Enterprise Chamber of Commerce and VCBeat, and jointly organized by R&F Properties, Chunyu Yisheng (Spring Rain Doctor), China Telecom Yi Jiankang, Miao Jiankang, HePu Medical, Qingke Medical, and Jia You Jiankang, was held at the R&F Renaissance Hotel in Beijing.
Themed “Strategic Opportunities, Technological Innovation, and Investment Trends in the Healthcare Industry,” this forum reviewed and summarized the industry’s achievements since 2014, the inaugural year of digital healthcare, and outlined development trends for 2019. Through keynote speeches, expert roundtables, and promotion and negotiation sessions, the event aimed to foster in-depth exchanges and cooperation among member units of the Beijing-Guangdong Enterprise Chamber of Commerce, identify innovative opportunities, and promote the growth of the healthcare industry. At the conference, the Healthcare Committee of the Beijing-Guangdong Enterprise Chamber of Commerce was officially established.
The 18 founding members of the Health and Medical Committee include: VCBeat, R&F Group, China Telecom Yi Jiankang, Miao Health, Spring Rain Doctor, Zero2IPO Healthcare, Hepu Pain Specialty Clinic, Jiayou Health, Guangdong Meishan Biotechnology, Healthapple, Guangzhou New Orange Information Technology, Pinghe Renjia Health Technology, Huaxia Medical Services, 981 Health Medical Center, Zhuowei Law Firm, Jiahao Fund, Beijing Smart Property Management (Hospital), and Panaxi International Hospital.
Li Datao, founder of VCBeat, began by sharing the research findings accumulated by VCBeat over the past five years and offered insights into the future characteristics of the healthcare industry. VCBeat is a research-oriented media outlet focused on the transformation of the broader health industry, driven by the dual engines of “new technologies” and “new healthcare reforms.” According to VCBeat’s review, 2016–2017 marked a critical juncture in the development of the digital health sector. In 2016, the prevailing theme was “seeking upward momentum,” with keywords such as “empowerment,” “ecosystem building,” and “models and technologies.” In 2017, the industry witnessed an “explosion of new species,” accompanied by hot topics such as “new traffic entry points” and “barbarians at the gate.” Although 2018 was widely regarded as a “capital winter,” this did not hold true for the digital health field. VCBeat’s analysis indicates that since 2014, the most prominent feature of the industry has been the realignment of supply and demand, specifically manifested as “digitalization on the supply side” and changes in “traffic and retention on the demand side.” Regardless of whether these changes are positive or negative, practitioners must remain clear-headed and re-examine the restructuring of the industry ecosystem. VCBeat summarizes the future landscape of healthcare as digitalization, dislocation, and democratization.
Yue Jianning, Director of the Pain Diagnosis and Treatment Center at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University and Chief Expert specially appointed by Hepu Pain Specialty, delivered a talk titled “Pain and Health in Everyday Life,” analyzing the immense potential of China’s healthcare market. He pointed out that, taking the field of pain management as an example, data show that approximately 50 million people in China suffer from cervical spondylosis, with about 1 million new cases diagnosed each year. Despite the large patient population, there is widespread neglect of chronic pain conditions, insufficient understanding of the discipline, and a lack of daily self-care knowledge related to pain management. Digital health serves as an effective means to address these challenges, presenting considerable market potential.
Dr. Luo Xiaobin, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Miao Health, analyzed and reviewed the healthcare industry under the theme “Exploration of Big Data-Driven Innovative Health Management Models.”
Miao Health’s self-developed SDK supports over 400 smart hardware devices across 17 categories, integrating with more than 80% of the data interfaces in the wearable device market, thereby breaking down industry data silos. Big data-driven health management will generate greater ecosystem effects—by leveraging health big data, user needs can be precisely understood, third-party health and medical service platforms can be connected, and service delivery solutions can be created. The combination of online tracking with offline store services and retail offers a superior service experience.
On one hand, offline health management stores with years of clinical-level experience, such as CWI, are capable of providing scientifically effective, evidence-based health management solutions, thereby offering professional endorsement and a physical service delivery channel for online health services. On the other hand, high-frequency interventions and data collection conducted online help enhance the effectiveness of health management. This type of high-frequency, tangible, and effective health management can be integrated with health insurance; for insurers, reducing intrusive communications while strengthening interactions that benefit users’ health will inevitably lead to a better user experience. In this big-data-driven innovative health management model, superior user experience fosters strong user stickiness, thus forming a comprehensive closed loop encompassing “wellness, medical care, pharmaceuticals, and insurance,” with health management serving as the entry point.
During the Expert Roundtable session, Xu Zhonghuang, Director of the Department of Pain and Anesthesiology at Peking Union Medical College Hospital; Zeng Boyi, CEO of Chunyu Doctors; Luo Xiaobin, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Miao Health; Yu Jurong, Investment Partner at Zero2IPO Healthcare; and Zhang Peng, Founder of Jiayou Health, engaged in in-depth discussions on current hot topics, including “The Direction of ‘Internet + Healthcare’ in 2019,” “How to Achieve Online-Offline Integration in ‘Internet + Healthcare’,” “How to Enhance Services and Capabilities,” and “How Health Insurance and Health Management Can Create a Closed-Loop Health Ecosystem.”
Attendees expressed unanimous optimism about the future of the healthcare industry. They believe that a hallmark of industrial maturity is the refinement of specialization, and healthcare is a sector inherently poised for online-offline integration, with abundant opportunities for market segmentation. In the past, some entrepreneurs in this field have already accumulated a significant user base and data assets, establishing competitive core business value. Looking ahead, entrepreneurs will not rest on their laurels; given the inelastic nature of healthcare demand, only through steadfast commitment can they collectively foster the industry’s growth and expansion.
Regarding the significance of the Beijing Guangdong Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce establishing a Health and Medical Committee and hosting health and medical-themed forums, Zhang Hui, Executive President of the Beijing Guangdong Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of R&F Properties Group, stated that this initiative aligns with the booming trend of the broader health industry. He noted that building a dedicated health and medical industry platform for Guangdong entrepreneurs will contribute to enhancing brand value, providing in-depth services to members, fostering industrial linkage and interoperability, and promoting cooperation in the capital market. President Zhang also pointed out that R&F Properties has launched business operations in the broader health sector.
It is reported that over the past 11 years since its establishment, the Beijing-Guangdong Enterprise Chamber of Commerce has made outstanding contributions to serving the capital city, fostering cooperation, and giving back to its home province. In particular, it has achieved remarkable results in building a collaborative platform for Guangdong entrepreneurs in Beijing to support one another and pursue common development; promoting Beijing’s economic and social development; engaging in public welfare initiatives in Guangdong and contributing to hometown construction; and facilitating exchanges and cooperation between Beijing and Guangdong across economic, social, and cultural domains. The establishment of the Health and Medical Committee of the Beijing-Guangdong Enterprise Chamber of Commerce marks another solid step forward in the Chamber’s efforts to transform its mindset, adjust its structure, and achieve transformation and upgrading.
Following the forum, the Chamber of Commerce also held its annual Spring Tea Gathering and New Year’s Greeting Dinner. At the event, the Party Building Activity Center of the Beijing Guangdong Enterprise Chamber of Commerce was officially established, and our Chamber concurrently conferred plaques upon 13 newly appointed direct council members for 2018.
