VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that PointClickCare Technologies, a Canadian health IT company headquartered in Canada, announced on March 6, 2019, the acquisition of QuickMAR. QuickMAR is a software company specializing in medication management, with its products focused on the long-term and post-acute care (LTPAC) market and medication administration.

Andy Brigant, Vice President of Pharmaceutical Sales and Project Management at PointClickCare, stated, “The goal of PointClickCare’s acquisition is to provide seniors and pharmacies with broader and more flexible options to meet their medication management needs and to offer decision-support consulting services for inpatient care, all backed by a technology vendor.”

PointClickCare and QuickMAR both enjoy solid market positions. QuickMAR serves approximately 600 pharmacy clients from 3,700 senior living communities. Andy Brigant added, “Collectively, we will now serve around 10,000 senior living providers.”

Andy Brigant stated that QuickMAR will continue to operate as an independent entity in the future, including its platform. QuickMAR’s eMAR is a server-based electronic medication administration system designed for institutional pharmacies, assisted living, long-term care, and rehabilitation facilities. The software’s features include automated medication dispensing, drug reorder management, and treatment process tracking.

PointClickCare and QuickMAR will enter the market through different approaches, with their service models complementing each other perfectly. This will enable vendors and pharmacies to choose the platform and service model that best suits their needs. The acquisition of QuickMAR by PointClickCare can be seen as a prime example of the healthcare IT industry creating one-stop solutions for technical services.

Furthermore, integrating medication management with electronic health records (EHRs) can deliver greater benefits to administrators, which is precisely the goal of PointClickCare. The company has recently been striving to innovate its products in the long-term and post-acute care (LTPAC) sector through initiatives such as its “self-service developer program.” This program provides application programming interfaces (APIs) to encourage the creation of new tools and applications for a sector that remains underserved by technology.

PointClickCare CEO Mike Wessinger stated, “The acquisition of QuickMAR expands and strengthens our health product portfolio, providing our customers with greater flexibility and more options in medication management solutions, and enabling us to serve a more diverse range of senior living communities.”
