Developer of Artificial Intelligence Medical Imaging Diagnosis System

Since the start of the Two Sessions, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has remained a focal point of national attention. This year marks the third consecutive time that Premier Li Keqiang has highlighted the development of the AI industry in the Government Work Report, which also places significant emphasis on the intelligent upgrading of traditional industries.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have begun to be applied in the medical field, with technological innovations and advancements simultaneously influencing the development of smart healthcare. The 2019 Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), a top-tier global conference in computer vision and pattern recognition, will be held in Long Beach, United States, in June. As a premier annual academic event in the field of artificial intelligence, CVPR maintains rigorous acceptance criteria for papers, with an acceptance rate of less than 20% this year.

Eight papers from DeepWise were successfully accepted, standing out from the 7,144 submissions received worldwide. As a medical AI company established only two years ago, this academic achievement highlights DeepWise’s research strength among domestic medical AI enterprises and serves as a perfect demonstration of the technological prowess of China’s artificial intelligence development.

Eight research papers from the DeepWise Research Institute have achieved innovative breakthroughs in technologies such as image recognition and medical imaging analysis. The institute is led by Professor Yu Yizhou, an IEEE Fellow (2019) and ACM Distinguished Scientist (2018). Through his relentless efforts, the DeepWise Research Institute attained phased achievements in its 2018 scientific research initiatives. Under his leadership, the team completed the research and development of seven medical AI products across three major categories. These products are now widely applied in decision-making and follow-up processes for early lung cancer screening, early breast cancer screening, auxiliary diagnosis of stroke, and assessment of bone age growth in children. Leveraging a comprehensive portfolio of AI-assisted medical diagnostic products and robust scientific research capabilities, DeepWise maintains long-term collaborative partnerships with numerous top-tier medical institutions in China. Currently, its products are undergoing clinical trials in 300 hospitals, with daily usage exceeding 30,000 cases.

The eight papers selected from DeepWise this time collectively highlight the breakthroughs made by the DeepWise Research Institute in 2018 in core algorithms for artificial intelligence computer vision. Among them, the paper titled “Cascaded Generative and Discriminative Learning for Microcalcification Detection in Breast Mammograms” aims to optimize the detection algorithm for microcalcifications (diameter ≤1 cm) in breast mammography.

Breast cancer is currently the most common malignant tumor in women. With its incidence rate rising annually, medical imaging plays a crucial role in the early detection and accurate diagnosis of breast cancer. Therefore, research into algorithms for detecting microcalcifications holds significant clinical importance. These research findings have been integrated into DeepWise’s Dr. Wise® AI-assisted diagnostic system for mammography. During the clinical trial phase, the system has achieved remarkable results and received widespread acclaim from industry experts. The clinical application of this technology enhances both the efficiency and accuracy of breast cancer diagnosis, enabling physicians to intervene at the early stages of the disease. This ultimately significantly improves breast cancer survival rates and contributes to better public health and quality of life.

DeepWise led the domestic medical AI sector by a wide margin in the number of accepted papers at this prestigious conference, undoubtedly creating another industry miracle for a company just two years old. Since its inception, DeepWise has been committed to innovation and forging ahead, completing three rounds of financing within one year and building an extensive portfolio of medical AI products in less than two years. With a pioneering spirit of innovation and a drive to scale new heights, DeepWise has continued to deepen its engagement in the smart healthcare field, achieving one miracle after another.
