The special fund was officially established and signed on February 27, 2019, by Wu Jieping Medical Foundation Chairman Xiao Meng and Beijing Biosis Healing Biological Technology Co., Ltd. Chairman Zhao Bo.

Prior to the signing of this special fund, Beijing Biosis Healing Biological Technology Co., Ltd. had been consistently dedicated to advancing medical public welfare initiatives. Since its establishment in 2012, the company has adhered to its original mission of promoting human health and well-being. While achieving rapid growth, it has remained committed to making proactive efforts in the realm of public welfare, thereby making unique contributions to fostering the healthy development of the industry and advancing philanthropic causes.

Biosis Healing and the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation have long maintained a deep partnership. During their collaboration, both parties recognized the need to elevate their shared ambition for the medical cause to new heights. Consequently, they swiftly reached a consensus and accelerated the establishment of the “Wu Jieping Medical Foundation–Biosis Healing Excellence in Surgery Special Fund.”

The establishment of the special fund, with the primary objective of enhancing China’s technological and industrialization capabilities in this field, aims to break the monopoly held by foreign technologies, achieve import substitution, and provide high-quality, affordable tissue repair products to a broad patient population. As is well known, tissue repair and functional regeneration have become an inevitable trend in the development of modern surgery. The clinical demand for improving quality of life and restoring the function of defective tissues is growing increasingly strong. Therefore, China’s 13th Five-Year Plan for Scientific and Technological Innovation explicitly states that strategic emphasis should be placed on major strategic products such as tissue-inducing biomedical materials, with a focus on tissue replacement, functional restoration, and intelligent regulation.

However, China’s technological and industrialization capabilities in this field remain weak. Technologies and products for biomedical materials capable of achieving functional regenerative repair are monopolized by a few developed countries, with imported products being prohibitively expensive. Given the substantial clinical demand in China, it is of great significance to rapidly enhance domestic technological proficiency, break the monopoly of imported products, and achieve import substitution. This requires collaborative efforts across upstream and downstream industries, as well as among academia, research institutions, industry, and healthcare providers, to address common key technical and clinical challenges in this field. The establishment of a special-purpose fund is therefore timely.

To ensure the academic integrity and impartiality of research projects under the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation–Biosis Healing Excellence in Surgery Special Fund, the Foundation has established a dedicated Review Expert Committee. This committee will provide independent, academic, fair, impartial, and professionally authoritative opinions on project initiation, review, and evaluation for the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation–Biosis Healing Excellence in Surgery Special Fund.
