VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that on March 14, 2019, Implicity, a French company specializing in the research and development of cardiac implantable electronic devices, announced the completion of a €4 million seed funding round. The investors in this round included Serena, XAnge, Siparex, and CapDecisif Management.
The proceeds from this round of financing will be allocated to three areas: first, the research and development of remote monitoring systems for cardiac implantable electronic devices; second, expansion into new markets, with plans to establish the first data center in the United States by 2020; and third, the expansion of artificial intelligence operations.
Implicity is a developer of cardiac implantable electronic devices, headquartered in Paris, France. The company has developed a remote monitoring system for cardiac implantable electronic devices. Through this system, healthcare professionals can easily communicate with patients and monitor their health status in real time. By leveraging advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, Implicity has enabled the storage of patient medical records within its intelligent monitoring system, making personalized remote healthcare services possible.
According to foreign media reports, there are more than 500,000 patients with heart disease in France. Cardiac implantable electronic devices (including pacemakers and defibrillators) are among the most commonly used medical devices for treating heart disease. The traditional approach to diagnosis and treatment involves patients having two face-to-face consultations with cardiologists each year, thereby helping them better engage in rehabilitation training.
Prior to 2016, home monitoring devices were manufactured and marketed by five companies (Abbott, Biotronik, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Microport), each transmitting data to its own proprietary platform. Constrained by the lack of interoperability, the data retrieval systems of these five companies failed to streamline cardiologists’ workflows and instead imposed significant operational burdens on healthcare professionals.
In May 2016, Dr. Arnaud Rosier, a French cardiologist and artificial intelligence researcher, identified the potential in the cardiac disease diagnosis and treatment market and co-founded Implicity with partners, aiming to provide healthcare professionals and patients with a platform compatible with all devices worldwide.
Dr. Arnaud Rosier, CEO of Implicity, stated, “The remote monitoring system for cardiac implantable electronic devices represents a significant achievement in the digitalization of healthcare. Clinical evidence demonstrates that patient outcomes have been substantially improved following the adoption of this system. This not only reduces healthcare costs but also enables more optimal allocation of medical resources.”
“Implicity is a highly innovative medical technology company, and we are delighted to partner with them. Remote monitoring systems for cardiac implantable electronic devices have gained widespread recognition among healthcare professionals. We also believe that, with its high-quality products and strong execution capabilities, Implicity is poised to become a great enterprise,” said Kamel Zeroual, Partner at Serena.
