VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that biotechnology company Strata Oncology recently announced the launch of StrataNGS 3.0, a pan-cancer analysis tool for solid tumors, providing differentiated solutions for pharmaceutical companies’ drug development.

Strata Oncology was founded by leading figures from Harvard Medical School and the University of Michigan in the fields of cancer genomics, molecular pathology, and clinical oncology, with its headquarters located in Michigan, USA. Since its establishment in 2016, the company has been dedicated to integrating cutting-edge molecular profiling with routine precision therapy trials, systematically connecting healthcare systems and pharmaceutical companies to build a platform for precision oncology treatment. It is reported that in 2018, Strata Oncology completed a $26 million Series B financing round, with participation from Pfizer and Merck & Co.

StrataNGS is a targeted assay that sequences both DNA and RNA. The sequencing process is typically performed in Strata Oncology’s high-throughput, CLIA-certified laboratory. This test is designed to provide information on genetic variants, with its detection panel covering all biomarkers currently approved by the FDA.

Compared with previous versions, the newly launched StrataNGS 3.0 is primarily designed for patients with advanced cancer. It incorporates analysis data for an additional 500 cancer-related genes and utilizes DNA and RNA from tumor samples for sequencing to determine the status of three key immunotherapy biomarkers—microsatellite instability (MSI), tumor mutational burden (TMB), and PD-L1—as well as 36 other gene expression markers.

Currently, StrataNGS version 3.0 is provided free of charge to patients with advanced cancer who are enrolled in the Strata Trial medical system. Strata Trial is a proprietary system from Strata Oncology that offers a rapid and predictable precision therapy mechanism for drug development and clinical trials. The results of the StrataNGS test are ultimately presented in a streamlined report, delivered to physicians and patients within 10 business days, thereby enabling physicians to quickly determine appropriate treatment plans based on relevant genomic information.

“The reason for expanding the scope of cancer data analysis this time is that we aim to build a more comprehensive solution to meet the research needs of healthcare systems and biopharmaceutical companies,” said Scott Tomlins, M.D., founder of Strata Oncology. “In addition to providing relevant genomic information to physicians, StrataNGS will also provide data support for new trials conducted by cancer researchers, accelerating the drug development process.”
