A French private equity fund
VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on March 21, local time in France, the biotechnology startup Igyxos completed a €7.5 million Series A financing round. The funds will support Igyxos in the development of innovative drugs for infertility until experimental results demonstrate efficacy.
It is reported that this round of financing was led by the Accelerate Biotechnologies Santé Fund under Bpifrance, with follow-on investments from Go Capital Amorçage II under Go Capital, Loire Valley Invest Funds, and Fonds Emergence Innovation II under Sofimac Innovation. In addition, Igyxos has expanded its Board of Directors, with Hervé Bachelot Lallier from Go Capital and Jean-Briac Lesné from Sofimac Innovation joining the Igyxos Board.
Igyxos is a biotechnology company dedicated to researching new therapies for female and male infertility. The company is currently developing a novel treatment that utilizes monoclonal antibodies to modulate hormonal balance, with the aim of curing infertility. Igyxos states that gonadotropins, the hormones responsible for regulating the reproductive cycle, are naturally produced by the pituitary gland. In women, these hormones control oocyte maturation and the initiation of ovulation within the pituitary gland, while in men, they regulate sperm production. By developing monoclonal antibodies that enhance the biological activity of gonadotropins, there is promising potential for curing infertility.
“We are delighted to support the Igyxos team in developing innovative drugs for infertility,” said Benoit Barteau of Bpifrance, Hervé Bachelot Lallier of Go Capital, and Jean-Briac Lesné of Sofimac Innovation. “In fact, hormone therapy has seen little innovation since the 1960s, and current hormonal treatments have demonstrated their limitations in many patients. The monoclonal antibody being developed by Igyxos has the potential to significantly improve cure rates for patients with infertility.”
“The successful raising of €7.5 million is closely tied to the support provided by Pierre-Henry Longeray in his role as Chief Executive Officer and Professor René Frydman through their professional expertise. We look forward to seeing Igyxos’s therapeutic candidates successfully reach the market,” said Marie-Christine Maurel, Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Igyxos. “We also extend our gratitude to our existing investors—Center Capital Développement, Sofimac Régions, and APICAP—as well as BPI Région Center and the Centre-Val de Loire Region, who have been providing financial support to our project since its inception.”
