VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) recently learned that U.S. healthcare services company AMOpportunities has announced the completion of a $2.2 million Series A financing round. The investors include OCA Ventures, HealthX Ventures, Wildcat LLC, M25 Group, and the charitable foundation of the University of Chicago. AMOpportunities will use these funds to expand its collaborations with healthcare institutions, hospitals, and schools. It is reported that the company completed a $1.1 million angel financing round in October 2017.

AMOpportunities, established in 2013 and headquartered in Chicago, USA, provides clinical internship opportunities at U.S. hospitals for medical students and graduates worldwide. By facilitating information matching between students and healthcare institutions, the company makes it easier for students to search for and apply for internships. Since its inception, more than 2,500 medical students from 75 countries have participated in over 200 clinical rotations offered annually by the company. The main steps are as follows:

I. Before Application: Register an account on the company’s website, select your preferred hospital, make the payment, and then submit the application.

II. Application in Progress: AMOpportunities will intelligently match suitable times, locations, and institutions for students based on their application forms and individual circumstances. The company provides comprehensive guidance throughout the process, assisting students with securing accommodation and offering essential services such as visa support, housing arrangements, and health and accident insurance.

III. Post-Application: Upon formal commencement of the internship, the hospital institution will arrange a four-week clinical rotation for the intern, comprising theoretical courses, observerships, and medical assistant roles. Placement sites include affiliated hospitals, research institutions, and clinics.

Upon completion of the internship, supervising physicians will evaluate trainees based on patient feedback. Physicians will write letters of recommendation for outstanding trainees and submit them to the trainees’ home institutions. During the job search process after graduation, U.S. medical directors typically review applicants’ academic backgrounds and clinical experience. A strong letter of recommendation can be a decisive factor in securing a residency position, helping graduates successfully enter healthcare institutions in the United States.

AMOpportunities CEO Kyle Swinsky stated, “For the U.S. healthcare system to thrive, it requires outstanding physicians from around the world. Without these international medical graduates, the United States would face a severe physician shortage. We need these international doctors to strengthen our healthcare system.”
