VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on April 2, UK time, health tech startup Elvie completed a €37.5 million Series B financing round. The funds will be used to advance the development of the Elvie Trainer, a pelvic floor training device designed to improve women’s pelvic floor control and thereby address urinary incontinence.

It is reported that this round of financing was led by IPGL, with participation from Octopus Ventures and Impact Ventures UK.

Headquartered in London, Elvie is a health-tech startup developing medical products for women. In 2014, Elvie launched its first wearable pelvic floor trainer, the Elvie Trainer, to help women strengthen pelvic floor control through scientifically guided exercises.

Urinary incontinence is a common condition, typically caused by weakened pelvic floor function. The pelvic floor is a crucial layer of muscles that supports the uterus, bladder, small intestine, and rectum. When these muscles weaken, control over the bladder may be lost. This condition can occur not only during childbirth, menopause, and aging in women, but also as a result of damage from chronic pressure on the pelvic floor. Such pressure generally arises from weight gain, hereditary misalignment of the muscle layers, or high-intensity exercise. Weakened pelvic floor function can lead to one or more types of pelvic floor disorders, such as stress urinary incontinence and even pelvic organ prolapse.

Using the Elvie Trainer helps women perform exercises correctly to improve pelvic floor control. In addition to the specialized dietary and lifestyle guidance provided by the Elvie platform, the Elvie Trainer employs professional pelvic floor training methods to help enhance bladder control in women. During training, the Elvie Trainer provides real-time visual feedback to monitor whether the exercises are being performed correctly; users can connect the Elvie Trainer to a mobile device for real-time monitoring. This is the most critical aspect of training, as improper technique can continue to place stress on the pelvic floor, potentially worsening the condition.

“Whether it’s menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause, women’s bodies undergo significant stress. We are committed to developing more products to improve women’s health,” said Tania Boler, CEO of Elvie. “We are delighted to have the support of IPGL as we power our next phase of research. This round of financing will enable us to continue innovating while expanding into global markets to meet customer needs.”

IPGL CEO Michael Spencer stated, “Few companies focus on women’s health issues, but women’s health should not be overlooked. Elvie is developing smarter medical products for women, dedicated to improving the health status of women worldwide.”
