30 Innovative Companies Across 12 Sectors Honored in 2019 China Grassroots Healthcare Innovation Awards

Two months into the 2019 Call for Innovative Primary Healthcare Practice Cases in China, organized by VCBeat, co-organized by VBInsight, and supported by the Guangdong Provincial Association of Primary Health Care, we have received a total of 281 submissions. The results of the ranking are about to be announced.

During the 2017 “The Power of Downward Integration” and 2018 “New Structure” themed calls for innovative primary care practice cases, we selected 51 outstanding enterprises from 226 applicants across 27 provinces and municipalities in China, helping them receive over 100 investment matchmaking requests and garner attention from more than 10,000 industry professionals.

And they secured approximately 108 rounds of financing in total, with a cumulative amount of around RMB 14.51645 billion and a valuation exceeding RMB 77.89 billion. The total financing obtained in 2017 was approximately RMB 1.99525 billion, while in 2018 it reached about RMB 12.5212 billion, representing an approximate 6.28-fold increase compared to 2017.

Over 20 Outstanding Primary Care Cases Worth Watching in 2017—Join the Conversation!

The 2019 Call for Innovative Primary Care Practice Cases focuses on hot topics such as internet hospitals, family doctors, private primary care institutions, primary testing and diagnostics, and new pharmaceutical marketing, fromCase innovativeness (technological or model innovation), case replicability, depth of practical implementation, development prospects, comprehensive strength of the applying enterprise (financing status, executive team, brand influence), and relevance to primary healthcareacross six major dimensions. The initiative aims to identify innovative healthcare enterprises that truly represent and are deeply rooted in primary care settings, thereby fostering the development of innovative practices in the primary healthcare sector.

This year’s award-winning cases are primarily concentrated in the fields of internet hospitals, third-party medical services, and new pharmaceutical marketing. Compared with the cases participating in the 2017 and 2018 selections, internet hospitals, telemedicine, pharmaceuticals, and clinics remain enduring hotspots. The recently highly publicized “4+7” policy, which reconstructs the drug tendering and procurement system, along with the three-pronged policy combination of consistency evaluation, volume-based procurement, and medical insurance payment, is profoundly impacting the ecosystem of the pharmaceutical industry. The “Internet + Healthcare” model has always been a core focus for addressing the uneven spatial and temporal distribution of high-quality medical resources in China. The addition of the third-party medical services category to this year’s award case collection also reflects the impact of policies such as “tiered diagnosis and treatment,” the “two-invoice system,” and “medical consortia.”With the gradual implementation of policies such as “family doctor contracting,” China’s healthcare system reform has been further deepened.

On April 15, 2019, the campaign to identify outstanding cases of innovative practices in China’s primary healthcare concluded. Over a two-month period, a total of 281 case studies were collected, and 30 exemplary cases were selected across 12 thematic areas.
