VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on April 25, U.S. local time, biotechnology company Navan Technologies completed its seed funding round. The proceeds from this round will be used to develop a bionanotechnology platform to help medical teams advance cell therapy research.

It is reported that this round of financing was jointly invested by Amgen Ventures, High-Tech Gründerfonds, and Hemi Ventures.

NAVAN Technologies, founded in 2016, is a biotechnology company dedicated to the research and development of novel cell and gene therapies. The NanoStraw platform is its flagship product.

Biologically, cells are vital components of the human body, capable of producing various substances required for physiological functions. If medical professionals could deliver these necessary substances directly into patients’ cells, it would facilitate recovery and restore health. However, the cell membrane is relatively fragile and prone to rupture during the delivery process, which could adversely affect patient health.

NanoStraw is a bionanotechnology platform developed by the company that enables interfacing with cells and delivering relevant substances into them. It offers the following advantages: (1) Gentle and non-disruptive: NanoStraw can deliver nutrients into cells without compromising the integrity of the cell membrane; (2) No size limitation on delivered substances: While conventional biological delivery techniques impose restrictions on the size of cargo, NanoStraw can expand the cell membrane to facilitate the delivery of macromolecules; (3) Targeting capability: To ensure delivery of nutrients to target cells, the platform can conjugate the cargo with targeting molecules, thereby ensuring precise delivery.

This platform streamlines the operational procedures of cell therapy, reduces medical costs, and facilitates further research and development of diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for related diseases within the healthcare industry.

Dr. Michael J. Nowak, President and CEO of NAVAN Technologies, stated, “Our company’s NanoStraw technology enables the direct intracellular delivery of substances while maintaining cell viability, thereby assisting medical teams in disease treatment. We are grateful for our investors’ support, and we will further advance the development of related technologies and expand our product market.”

Dr. Lena Krzyzak, Senior Investment Manager at High-Tech Gründerfonds, added, “We are very optimistic about the development prospects of NAVAN Technologies. Cell therapy has always been a key focus for us, and this company offers us a new therapeutic approach.”
