Genomic Data Analysis Platform Developer
VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned from foreign media that UK-based health tech company Congenica recently completed a $30.1 million Series B financing round. The funds will be used to support the expansion of its integrated healthcare information services, helping medical teams advance cancer research and optimize patient diagnosis and treatment experiences.
It is reported that this round of financing was led by Parkway Advisors.
Congenica, founded in 2013 and headquartered in Cambridge, UK, is a medical technology company. The company is dedicated to building an integrated healthcare information platform to assist medical teams in treating cancer, researching gene-based drugs, and monitoring patient health.
As the variety of cancer types continues to increase, cancer prevention and treatment have become a focal point for the industry. However, the uneven distribution of global medical resources means that cancers already curable in some countries and regions remain intractable diseases in others. The application of information technology has benefited countless industries, and the healthcare sector is increasingly integrating with IT, striving to elevate overall medical standards and bring well-being to people worldwide at an early date.
The Sapientia platform is a healthcare information integration platform developed by Congenica, supporting login for both healthcare professionals and patients. The platform offers two core functionalities: telemedicine services and healthcare information integration.
The company’s platform offers three categories of telemedicine services: (1) Physicians and patients conduct online consultations via the Sapientia platform, saving patients’ consultation time, reducing medical costs, and improving the diagnostic and treatment efficiency of medical teams; (2) Cancer patients typically require multi-cycle treatments, but limited healthcare resources prevent them from staying in hospitals throughout the entire treatment period. The Sapientia platform enables physicians to remotely monitor patients’ health status and notify them in advance when the next treatment cycle is approaching, allowing them to visit healthcare facilities for short-term care; (3) Creation of virtual gene panels for patients. These panels visually present patients’ genomic data, helping physicians intuitively analyze pathogenic genes and implement phased treatment strategies.
Meanwhile, the Sapientia platform is capable of integrating and processing medical information, providing healthcare teams with vast amounts of data to support the development of novel gene therapies for new types of cancer. The platform aggregates all transmitted data, organizing it into categorized packages. When researching specific diseases, medical teams can log in to the Sapientia platform, collect required information under relevant categories, and extract and analyze it as needed. Currently, the company primarily provides cancer diagnosis and treatment data, supporting remote transmission of files in FASTQ, BAM, and VCF formats.
Dr. David Atkins, CEO of Congenica, stated, “We are grateful for the support from our new round of investors. We will utilize the funds from this financing round to further expand our healthcare information platform and achieve automation of Sapientia. We aim to increase our market coverage and pursue international expansion.”
The Board of Directors of Parkway Advisors stated, “Clinical genomics is continuously evolving, and it is imperative to enhance the diagnostic and treatment efficiency of healthcare teams. We are highly optimistic about the healthcare information integration platform launched by Congenica and look forward to collaborating with them to advance the development of clinical genomics services and deliver better care to patients.”
