VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that mobile health management company Noom has recently completed a $58 million Series E financing round led by Sequoia Capital. Other participants included the technology investment arm of French holding company Groupe Arnault and WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum.

, DoorDash co-founder Tony Xu, Oscar Health co-founder Josh Kushner, and SB Projects co-founder as well as existing investor Samsung Ventures.

Noom, a New York-based company, is a global leader in mobile health management, best known for its direct-to-consumer weight loss and fitness app. The company is also developing other health-focused products, including applications dedicated to diabetes and hypertension management. Noom’s comprehensive diabetes prevention program is the first of its kind recognized by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and remains the only such program with clinical validation published in peer-reviewed journals.

Noom enables real-time tracking of users’ calorie and nutrient intake, monitors their exercise habits, and places particular emphasis on long-term lifestyle and behavioral changes. Users download the Noom app, complete a questionnaire, and are paired with dedicated health coaches; the system then delivers personalized content tailored to individual needs. Rather than imposing rigid fitness and dieting regimens, Noom’s behavior-change program seeks to understand each user’s motivational drivers and barriers to weight loss, thereby providing optimal guidance for achieving sustainable behavioral change.

Currently, the Noom app is competing for users with Under Armour’s MyFitnessPal and Weight Watchers, but its closest competitor may be Rise, a nutrition-based fat-loss app, as both design personalized programs for their clients and provide one-on-one coaching services.

The company will use the proceeds from this round of financing to expand its team and enhance customer experience. Saeju Jeong, CEO and co-founder of Noom, stated, “Our Noom coaching team has already achieved some results, and the funds raised will help us hire more employees to provide personalized services for everyone.”

Jan Koum believes that Noom has the potential to transform the health industry, outpacing its competitors in technology, execution, and brand recognition. He is confident that Noom shares many of the same characteristics as WhatsApp, which could help the company achieve further breakthroughs in the communications sector.

Michael Abramson, a partner at Sequoia Capital and a member of Noom’s board of directors, added, “Noom is one of the fastest-growing companies in the global behavioral health sector to date. Sequoia is delighted to collaborate with the Noom team to help people achieve healthier lifestyles.”
