Technology-Driven Medical Advancement

Among the award-winning projects in 2018, the innovation-driven development strategy provided impetus for medical advancement. Xiangya Hospital constructed a “‘Internet+’-Based Whole-Course Disease Management System,” which leverages three major information technology tools—HCRM, HCCM, and the WeChat account “Zhiyi Online”—to integrate five core operational modules: pre-hospital preparation, in-hospital services, discharge preparation, two-way referral, and post-discharge tracking and follow-up. This established a bridge-like, whole-course health management platform spanning both inside and outside the hospital, truly realizing care-oriented managed healthcare.

The “Application of Multimodal Intelligent Human-Computer Interaction System” project at Pengzhou People’s Hospital utilizes speech recognition, touch sensing, gesture control, and motion interaction technologies to operate the software. The software system automatically integrates with other medical information systems to retrieve patient data and display medical images, transforming abstract data into concrete visualizations. This achieves a significant leap in medical imaging workflows—from transverse cross-sections to multi-planar and even three-dimensional representations—substantially improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing surgical complexity and duration.

“Research and Application of an Automated Disease Diagnosis Coding System,” a competing project from the Army Medical Center (formerly the Third Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University), achieved automated diagnosis coding based on machine learning methods for parsing diagnostic terminology. It realized standardized, precise, and intelligent clinical diagnostic descriptions, significantly reducing labor and time costs, and achieved outstanding results in the competition.

The Clinical Application of Technology Holds the Greatest Value

As technological advancement increasingly becomes the core driver of innovation-driven development strategies, technologies such as cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are gradually integrating with clinical medicine, thereby propelling its progress. The application of these technologies in clinical practice has emerged as the most noteworthy and valuable area within the realm of healthcare innovation.

At the 2018 Smart Healthcare Innovation Competition, the “YaFu—Intelligent Dermatological Diagnosis and Treatment Medical Consortium Platform,” developed by the Department of Dermatology at Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and the Hunan Provincial Engineering Research Center for Skin Health and Disease, was awarded the “Most Applicable Value Award,” garnering significant attention and acclaim.

“Yafu—Intelligent Dermatology Diagnosis and Treatment Medical Consortium Platform” is China’s first intelligent dermatology medical consortium translation platform. It pioneers a multi-dimensional diagnosis and treatment model that incorporates clinical images, imaging studies, and medical history, leveraging a novel approach combining dermatoscopes and other devices with the platform to significantly improve diagnostic accuracy. Currently, the platform has integrated 600 networked hospitals across 81 provinces and municipalities in China, with over 3,000 online follow-up cases and more than 2,000 online referral cases.
