Developer of Novel Therapies and Innovative Drugs
VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on May 7, U.S. local time, biotechnology company Repair Biotechnologies completed a $2.15 million seed funding round. The proceeds from this round will be used to support the company’s advancement of novel therapeutic technologies aimed at helping elderly patients restore immune system function and combat cancer.
It is reported that this round of financing was jointly invested by Thynk Capital and the SENS Research Foundation.
Repair Biotechnologies, founded in 2018 and headquartered in New York, USA, is a biotechnology company. The company aims to develop novel therapies and innovative drugs for the treatment of age-related diseases, addressing health issues associated with aging.
As people age, various tissues in the elderly body undergo continuous degeneration and loss. While the decline of some tissues is a normal part of aging, that of others can lead to disease. For example, the thymus plays a crucial role in the proper functioning of the adaptive immune system; however, in the elderly, thymic involution results in immune cell counts falling below normal levels, thereby impairing normal immune function.
Repair Biotechnologies, Inc. has developed a novel therapeutic approach to address the aforementioned issues. By targeting thymic atrophy with pharmacological and biotechnological interventions, this treatment helps restore T-cell production in the human body to normal levels, thereby enabling proper functioning of the T-cell immune system. The T-cell immune system primarily regulates the number of cancer cells in the body, helping elderly individuals combat cancer.
Furthermore, the company has launched a second clinical program targeting atherosclerosis in the elderly. Atherosclerosis is a cardiovascular disease caused by the accumulation of substantial waste products within the arteries, leading to impaired blood flow. Repair Biotechnologies addresses this condition by modulating the immune system within arterial vessels, restoring macrophage production to normal levels. Macrophages engulf excess cholesterol and other harmful substances in the arteries, thereby maintaining vascular patency and ensuring the efficient transport of nutrients and waste products.
“Repair Biotechnologies CEO and Co-Founder Reason stated, ‘We are committed to treating various age-related diseases by repairing human tissues. We are grateful for the support from our new round of investors. We will leverage this new funding to advance our therapeutic technologies and develop novel drugs, helping patients recover their health sooner.’”
Aubrey de Grey, Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer of the SENS Research Foundation, stated, “We are highly enthusiastic about collaborating with Repair Biotechnologies. We believe that the field of healthcare for the elderly holds significant promise, and the novel therapies proposed by Repair Biotechnologies are well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of this market.”
