2019 Shaoxing International Medical Device Industry Innovation Summit Forum will be held on May 28 at the Yangming Hotel, Kuaiji Mountain, Shaoxing, Zhejiang.

Currently serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the China Medical Device Industry Association, primarily responsible for industry data management and the translation of medical device research into practical applications. Also serves as a Startup Mentor in Jiangsu Province and as an evaluation expert for medical healthcare sectors in Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou New District, and Shanghai Zhangjiang. Has been frequently invited as a guest speaker to attend numerous high-level forums in the field of medical health.

Served in clinical practice for many years and held a medical services management role at International SOS. As Director at the SouFun Holdings Research Group and healthcare-focused investment institutions, led teams in industry data modeling and analysis, providing investment and strategic decision-making advice to renowned enterprises and financial institutions such as Standard Chartered Bank, Vanke, and Wanda Group.

Guan Yan believes that,China’s medical device industry is experiencing rapid growth, and a wave of mergers and acquisitions will emerge over the next 5–10 years.The Chinese market is gradually aligning with the global market, with the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) sector experiencing a very high growth rate and rapid development in the cardiovascular field. As regulatory oversight of the medical device market in China continues to improve, companies face increasing pressure. Over the next 5 to 10 years, a significant number of medical device enterprises will be acquired or even cease to exist.

Guan Yan stated that medical devices in China's health management industry will exhibit two major development trends, the first beingGlobal Digitalization Trends. The digitalization of healthcare begins with the digitalization of medical devices. Currently, digital medical devices in China still face certain challenges, such as a heavy reliance on imported core components. The digital transformation of the healthcare sector is a long-term process. The second trend isAI Development, medical artificial intelligence currently has four key development directions: medical imaging, virtual assistants, health management, and drug research and development.

With the increasing maturity of China’s medical device industry technologies and supporting supply chains, driven by national policies such as healthcare reform, tiered diagnosis and treatment, and support for the research, development, and upgrading of domestically produced equipment, and against the backdrop of introducing advanced global technologies and management practices in the medical device sector, China’s medical device industry is poised to enter a golden decade of rapid growth.

Starting in 2018, on February 26, the Center for Medical Device Evaluation of the former China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) issued the Technical Review Guidelines for the Registration of Customized Additive Manufacturing Medical Devices; in August, the State Council issued the Notice on Printing and Distributing the Key Tasks for Deepening the Reform of the Medical and Healthcare System in the Second Half of 2018; and on November 5, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) released the Special Review Procedures for Innovative Medical Devices. These developments clearly demonstrate that national policies encouraging innovation in high-end medical devices and optimizing processes to accelerate approval have undoubtedly provided a significant boost to the development of China’s medical device industry.

According to relevant data, the market size of China’s medical device industry reached RMB 445 billion in 2017, with a growth rate of 20.3%. By 2018, the market size further exceeded RMB 500 billion, and it is projected that the market size will approach RMB 650 billion in 2019. In 2018, the medical equipment segment remained the largest subsector within China’s medical device industry, with a market size of approximately RMB 301.3 billion, accounting for 56.80% of the total. This was followed by the high-value medical consumables segment, which had a market size of approximately RMB 104.6 billion, representing 19.72% of the total. Across all sectors, China’s medical device industry is experiencing widespread growth, demonstrating immense market potential.
