Hypertension Targeted Therapy Drug Developer

VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on May 14, U.S. local time, biopharmaceutical company CinCor Pharma completed a $50 million Series A financing round. The funds from this round will be used to support the company’s research and development of targeted therapies for hypertension, aiming to reduce patients’ resistance to treatment medications.

It is reported that this round of financing was led by Sofinnova Investments, with participation from 5AM Ventures. In addition, CinCor Pharma has expanded the size of its board of directors, and Jim Healy, Executive Partner at Sofinnova Investments, has joined the board of directors of CinCor Pharma.

Headquartered in Ohio, USA, CinCor Pharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on cardiovascular, metabolic, and renal diseases. Currently, its lead product is CIN-107, an enzyme inhibitor.

In 2017, the Joint National Committee (JNC) released data showing that adults with resistant hypertension had a 2- to 6-fold higher risk of stroke and death compared to patients with general hypertension. Resistant hypertension refers to a condition in which patients exhibit resistance to antihypertensive medications, rendering the drugs ineffective at achieving therapeutic effects on the affected tissues.

The human renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is responsible for regulating fluid and electrolyte balance, and CIN-107 acts through this system. CIN-107 is an aldosterone synthase inhibitor used to treat resistant hypertension and primary aldosteronism. Upon entering the body, it directly reaches diseased tissue cells, targets the genes responsible for aldosterone synthesis, binds to them, and inhibits the continued expression of aldosterone-synthesizing proteins, thereby reducing aldosterone levels and treating the underlying condition.

In CinCor Pharma’s most recent clinical study, CIN-107 demonstrated favorable tolerability, specific aldosterone inhibition, and a significant advantage in reducing aldosterone levels in the human body. CinCor Pharma will continue to conduct multiple-dose clinical studies of CIN-107 and, after matching dosage and pharmacological properties, initiate clinical-stage trials to evaluate its effects in patients with resistant hypertension and primary aldosteronism.

Jon Isacsohn, CEO of CinCor Pharma, stated, “We extend our sincere gratitude to the new round of investors. The company is currently at a critical stage of development, and we will utilize the proceeds from this financing to advance the research of CIN-107 and other drug candidates, with the aim of enabling patients to receive treatment sooner. We look forward to collaborating with Dr. Jim Healy to make science-driven decisions that foster the company’s growth.”
