VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that healthcare company Mightier recently completed a $6.6 million Series A financing round. The round was led by Foxkiser, with participation from Asset Management Ventures, FundRx, Founder Collective, Slow Ventures, and Project 11. The proceeds will be used to continue developing Mightier’s products and expand its marketing team. Following this round, the company’s total funding will exceed $10.1 million.

According to Crunchbase, Mightier has completed four rounds of funding since its inception. In June 2018, the company closed a $2.4 million seed round led by Slow Ventures.

Mightier’s bioresponsive video games, developed and tested over seven years at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, are designed to help children practice emotional regulation, develop coping skills, and build emotional muscle memory to better navigate life’s challenges.

Children wear heart rate monitors while playing bioresponsive video games. As their heart rates increase, the games become progressively more difficult. In these high-difficulty scenarios, children practice calming techniques, such as deep breathing and meditation, to lower their heart rates. The lower the heart rate, the easier it is to advance in the game.

To date, Mightier’s platform has amassed over 2.5 million pediatric users. In the past six months, the platform’s user base has grown more than tenfold. Craig Lund, Co-founder and CEO of Mightier, stated, “We created the Mightier platform to help children overcome the emotional challenges they face and practice calming skills. This financing will enable us to expand our consumer base and benefit more families.”

The Mightier platform features 25 different types of bioresponsive video games, catering to the diverse interests and gaming skill levels of children. Mightier collaborates with video game development companies to add new titles to the platform every month. Currently, two games on the platform have surpassed one million downloads.

Three clinical trials conducted by Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Massachusetts General Hospital demonstrated significant improvements in impulsive behaviors among children exhibiting symptoms such as irritability and anxiety after using the Mightier platform. After 12 weeks of platform use, participating children experienced a 62% reduction in emotional outbursts, a 40% reduction in oppositional behaviors, and a 19% reduction in parental stress.

Additionally, doctors can track children's progress and changes online on the Mightier platform, enabling them to provide targeted treatment.
