VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that on May 29, U.S. local time, the digital mental health platform Talkspace announced the completion of a $50 million Series D financing round. The round was led by Revolution Growth, with participation from Northwest Venture Partners, Qumra Capital, Spark Capital, and Compound Ventures. Patrick Controy from Revolution Growth will join Talkspace’s Board of Directors.
Talkspace plans to use the funding to enhance its online mental health treatment services, expand into international markets, and develop new artificial intelligence features.
To date, Talkspace has raised a total of $110 million in funding. Spark Capital, which participated in this round, has also consecutively invested in Talkspace’s seed, Series A, Series B, and Series C rounds. Northwest Venture Partners, Qumra Capital, and Compound Ventures have all participated in Talkspace’s previous financing rounds.
Talkspace is an online mental health therapy company founded in New York, USA, on June 1, 2012. The company connects patients seeking mental health services with therapists through its website and mobile application, delivering mental health treatment via the internet.
Talkspace has more than 3,000 NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance)-certified mental health therapists. The platform matches users with therapists based on their needs. Users will access their therapists via telehealth services and agree on treatment schedules. Talkspace offers text-based psychotherapy and video psychotherapy, allowing users to choose according to their circumstances and their therapist’s recommendations. All session content on Talkspace is HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliant. Additionally, Talkspace provides users with evidence-based clinical outcomes.
Mental health tools have become a hot subsector within the digital health landscape. In a recent study published in Nature Digital Medicine, researchers identified 1,435 mental health applications in app stores. These apps range from meditation and mindfulness platforms to telehealth platforms that connect users with clinicians.
Patrick Controy stated, “Talkspace has significantly improved people’s quality of life by leveraging new technologies. The progress the company has made to date underscores the urgent demand for mental health services among tens of millions of Americans. Our partnership will help make mental health care more affordable, accessible, and high-quality.”
