VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that private equity firm Audax Private Equity recently announced that its portfolio company, 42 North Dental, has completed the acquisition of the dental practice Northborough Dental Associates. Specific transaction terms have not been disclosed.

This acquisition marks Audax’s 900th transaction and 42 North Dental’s 21st add-on acquisition.

Audax Private Equity, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, is a private equity firm founded by Geoff Rehnert and Marc Wolpow in 1999. The company boasts a private equity investment team with extensive experience in investment, acquisitions, and operations, focusing on providing capital to middle-market enterprises. Since its inception, the firm has cumulatively invested over $5 billion. Currently, it manages more than $16 billion in assets across its equity, mezzanine debt, and senior debt businesses.

42 North Dental is a dental service organization in New England that provides business and administrative support to more than a dozen dental practices across over 60 communities. The company removes barriers for healthcare professionals in delivering patient care by offering non-clinical solutions and the business support needed to enhance practice value.

Northborough Dental Associates (Dental Associates), established in 1989, is a dental practice located in Massachusetts. The clinic offers a comprehensive range of services, from routine examinations and cleanings to full-mouth rehabilitation, including initial oral examinations, preventive care plans, dental fillings, tooth extractions, root canal therapy, CEREC crowns and caps, bridges and dentures, dental implants, teeth whitening, periodontal treatment, and pediatric dental care.

Among these, dental crowns, also known as caps, are commonly used to restore the function and appearance of teeth following restorative procedures (such as root canal therapy). When a tooth is damaged and difficult to repair with fillings, dentists typically use crowns to maintain its aesthetic appeal. Crowns are also beneficial when there are dental implants or when existing fillings are prone to loosening or dislodgement. Artificial dental crowns are made from all-ceramic or newly developed ceramic materials.

CEREC is a natural-looking and durable permanent artificial dental crown. For damaged teeth requiring crowns, inlays (a type of filling), or veneers (a cosmetic dental restoration technique), traditional treatment methods typically involve multiple appointments, which are time-consuming and labor-intensive. In contrast, CEREC completes these procedures in a single visit, taking only a few minutes.

CEREC consists of several computer-aided design (CAD) tools and a milling unit. The milling unit is a device for fabricating customized ceramic restorations. CEREC can benefit nearly all patients requiring ceramic restorations. It offers significant advantages for anxious patients and can also reduce treatment costs.

“Young Lee, Managing Director of Audax, said, ‘42 North Dental has demonstrated remarkable vision in scaling its organization through acquisitions and organic growth. We will support 42 North Dental in completing add-on acquisitions to drive revenue growth, optimize operations, and enhance equity value.’”

Notably, on May 17, Audax acquired Chartis Group, a company that provides consulting and analytics services to healthcare organizations.
