VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that on September 8, a multi-point collaborative 5G remote robotic surgery experiment utilizing China Unicom’s 5G network was successfully conducted at Suzhou Kangduo Robot Co., Ltd. The procedure was flawlessly performed by Director Liu Rong and his team from the Chinese PLA General Hospital (301 Hospital) using the “Kangduo Surgical Robot,” marking the first multi-point collaborative 5G remote multidisciplinary surgical experiment in China. This also represents another successful collaboration between Shanghai Yichao Medical Devices’ ultrasonic energy surgical system and a leading domestic robotics enterprise, facilitating the smooth completion of the robotic surgery.

The experimental technology team remotely controlled surgical robots (robotic arms) via 5G communication networks in Beijing and Suzhou, respectively, to perform intestinal resection and hepatectomy on the same experimental animal. Medical monitoring data, along with robot and network status information from the procedures, were integrated and broadcast to the central monitoring hall.

Beijing and Suzhou are 1,100 kilometers apart. During the surgery, the overall latency of the entire system and network was low, with the robotic arms responding promptly and stably. The surgical maneuvers were accurate and effective, and the vital signs of the experimental animals remained stable. Notably, the surgical robot (robotic arms) used in this experiment was independently developed by the domestic enterprise Suzhou Kangduo Robot Co., Ltd. It is capable of performing minimally invasive procedures for multiple surgical indications, offering advantages such as minimal invasiveness, precision, flexibility, and tremor filtration. Furthermore, the ultrasonic energy surgical system used in the experiment was provided by another domestic enterprise, Shanghai Yichao Medical Devices Co., Ltd., with all components independently designed and developed.
