The final session on autoimmune topics commenced with a roundtable hosted by Judy Liu, Director of Business Development at Hansoh, inviting executives from GSK, BI, PIVOTAL BIOVENTURE PARTNERS, and the Fangda Law Firm to delve into how to leverage development speed and smarter deals to bet on targets. This panel discussion, themed “Betting on FIC Targets as BD Entities,” brought together several senior participants from multinational pharmaceutical companies and investment institutions to engage in in-depth exchanges from perspectives such as R&D strategy, deal structure, and global collaboration. Multiple panelists noted that clinical targets, due to their relatively clear biological mechanisms and well-defined clinical endpoints, possess inherent advantages in early validation and development timelines, aiding in achieving faster value realization in an increasingly uncertain environment. However, multinational pharmaceutical companies are also increasingly pivoting towards FIC targets, emphasizing the completeness and innovation of mechanistic narratives. Some panelists stressed that "smarter deals" do not simply mean lower costs but achieving a dynamic balance between R&D efficiency and capital efficiency through risk stratification, regional segmentation, and milestone design at the appropriate stages. Additionally, some panelists shared cross-regional collaboration experiences, suggesting that conducting early clinical trials and data validation in regions with higher execution efficiency before connecting with global resources is a crucial pathway for accelerating peripheral targets toward internationalization.
