Venture Capital Firms Focused on the Digital Health Sector
VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on June 18, digital health company Cara Care announced the completion of a $7 million Series A financing round. The round was led by Johnson & Johnson and Asabys Partners, with participation from Atlantic Labs. The funds will be used to expand the U.S. market for the Cara Care app, helping patients with digestive disorders alleviate their symptoms.
Cara Care is a pharmaceutical company that provides services to patients with chronic digestive disorders. The company developed the Cara Care app for patients with digestive diseases to remotely guide them in gastrointestinal care. In collaboration with nutritionists, Cara Care also developed a nutrition diary application to track users’ daily dietary intake and gastrointestinal symptom data. Available in English and German, the Cara Care app features unique gastrointestinal health management methods, enabling patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) to monitor their digestive conditions at any time. To date, Cara Care has helped more than 400,000 patients in Germany and the United States alleviate and treat digestive disorders.
Josep Ll. Sanfeliu, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Asabys Partners, stated, “The Cara Care app is patient-centric, integrating data, artificial intelligence, and user experience features. It bridges smart applications with the pharmaceutical industry, offering patients with digestive disorders treatment options that go beyond traditional prescription medications, thereby helping to improve their quality of daily life.”
Christophe Maire, Founder and CEO of Atlantic Labs, stated, “Digital therapeutics represent the next major transformation in healthcare, and Cara Care is one of the most advanced companies in this field. In the near future, millions of patients with digestive disorders in Europe and the United States will benefit from the Cara Care app.”
Dr. André Sommer of Cara Care stated, “By identifying individual factors that trigger gastrointestinal symptoms, we can tailor interventions to reduce symptoms and improve patients’ quality of life. Leveraging health and lifestyle data, the Cara Care app can further optimize medication dosing and select treatment plans best aligned with each patient’s current condition.”
Cara Care completed a $2 million seed funding round on September 1, 2017, led by Atlantic Labs.
