On June 20, the China-US Nursing Forum, jointly hosted by BOE Health Services Group and the Anhui Nursing Association and organized by Hefei BOE Hospital, was grandly held in Hefei.

Against the backdrop of the implementation of the “Healthy China” strategy, the healthcare sector is ushering in a new era of development. As a vital component of the health ecosystem, nursing care is increasingly evolving toward specialization, precision, and intelligence. Centered on the theme “Safety · Precision · Intelligence · Innovation,” this forum brought together more than 200 attendees, including Chinese and American experts and scholars, representatives from nursing departments at Grade A tertiary hospitals, and media journalists, to jointly discuss the current state and future trends of healthcare development.

Prioritize Patient Experience and Cultural Development to Continuously Enhance Healthcare Quality

Feng Zhixian, Vice President of Shulan (Hangzhou) Hospital, places great emphasis on the quality of medical services. She believes that “to improve medical quality, it is essential to strengthen nursing leadership and ensure full-staff, whole-process participation in quality control.”

Regarding healthcare quality, Song Guiqi, Director of the Anhui Provincial Nursing Quality Control Center, stated, “The reconstruction of the nursing management system should be problem-improvement oriented, ensuring the authenticity and validity of data, as well as the standardization and informatization of nursing practice.”

Wu Xinjuan, President of the Chinese Nursing Association and recipient of the 43rd Florence Nightingale Medal, used “Peking Union Medical College Hospital culture” as an example to emphasize the importance of hospital culture and the building of harmonious teams.

Kim Deese, a nursing administrator at Dignity Health in the United States, advocates for “patient- and family-centered” care, emphasizing a mindset shift from merely serving patients and families to collaborating with them.

This aligns perfectly with BOE Health Services’ people-centric service philosophy. BOE’s digital hospitals prioritize not only patient experience but also the needs of healthcare professionals, fostering continuous and sustainable hospital development through this dual approach.

Specialization is the future direction of nursing practice.

Li Zhiju, Secretary-General of the Anhui Nursing Association, stated, “Anhui Province is actively establishing a specialized nurse system, aiming to add 3–5 provincial-level specialized training bases and 20–30 clinical practice bases by 2020.”

Gao Fengli, Director of the Nursing Department at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University, believes that “it is imperative to establish a vertical nursing management system.” The so-called vertical management system takes the director of the nursing department, the head nurse of the department, and the head nurse as the main line, to revitalize nursing human resources and optimize the professional nursing team.

BOE’s digital hospital is also preparing to establish an emergency reserve nurse pool, enabling temporary intra-hospital and short- to medium-term inter-hospital deployments based on operational needs to fulfill emergency response tasks.

From Integration to Innovation: Exploring New Pathways for Hospital Nursing Development

BOE’s Digital Hospital serves as a critical pillar of BOE’s Smart Health Management Ecosystem, dedicated to forging an innovative model that integrates medicine and engineering.

As the first large-scale tertiary general hospital invested and built by BOE, Hefei BOE Hospital has partnered with Dignity Health, a leading U.S. healthcare group, to introduce top-tier international medical technologies and operational philosophies, providing patient-centered healthcare services. By fully leveraging technological tools such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT), the hospital has innovated its operational model to deliver an optimal diagnostic and treatment experience for patients. Throughout its operations, the BOE nursing team has also pioneered a unique pathway for nursing development.

Liu Xiaoxiao, Nursing Director of BOE Health Services, emphasized, “From the outset of medical process planning and design, the nursing team should be deeply involved throughout the entire process, including nurse workflow optimization, ward design, equipment procurement, and, in particular, the creation of a ‘people-centered’ healing environment.”

In terms of management model, the nursing work at BOE Digital Hospital adheres to the HEART service philosophy and adopts an integrated patient management model. It is responsible for the entire continuum of medical and nursing care for individual patients—from outpatient visits and hospitalization to discharge and post-discharge follow-up—providing comprehensive health management services.

Liu Xiaojun revealed that the successful hosting of the inaugural Nursing Forum was inspiring. The next year’s Nursing Forum has already been scheduled, with a greater emphasis on specialized academic discussions focusing on critical care and chronic disease management, gradually extending to eight key disciplines including cardiovascular medicine, oncology, neurology, and obstetrics and pediatrics.
