Recently, VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media reports that healthcare company Surterra Wellness (“Surterra”) has announced the completion of its acquisition of cannabis company New England Treatment Access (“NETA”). The specific financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Surterra will acquire all of NETA’s business operations, including its indoor cannabis cultivation, processing, research and development, product development, and retail operations, as well as all medical and adult-use cannabis brands currently marketed by NETA, along with all associated intellectual property rights.
This strategic acquisition will expand Surterra’s operations and executive leadership team, strengthen its regional brand power, and solidify its position as a leader in the cannabis industry. Upon completion of the acquisition, Surterra and NETA will merge, with the combined entity becoming one of the highest-revenue companies in the global cannabis industry.
Surterra, founded in 2014 and headquartered in Georgia, is one of the fastest-growing health companies in the United States. The company specializes in developing natural health products derived from cannabis and is committed to providing individuals with the safest and most effective treatment options. By combining natural cultivation techniques with novel ingredient extraction technologies, Surterra aims to reshape perceptions of nature-based health solutions. Collaborating with companies that prioritize patient health and safety, Surterra leverages expertise in medicine, science, and agriculture to develop natural cannabis products that enable patients to alleviate symptoms and restore their health in the safest and most effective manner.
NETA, founded in 2009 and headquartered in Massachusetts, operates a vertically integrated business spanning cannabis cultivation, processing, and sales. The company is dedicated to improving patients’ quality of life through personalized medical services and scientific advancements in medical cannabis. NETA currently operates retail pharmacies in Brookline, United States, and Northampton, United Kingdom, while cultivating and processing all its cannabis products in Franklin, Canada. The company boasts a world-class, 100,000-square-foot facility for cannabis cultivation, extraction, and the research and development of infusion technologies. NETA has launched a diverse portfolio of more than 250 products, including cannabis and other cannabinoid-based offerings.
Massachusetts is one of the fastest-growing medical and adult-use cannabis markets in the United States. This acquisition marks Surterra’s second purchase within the past six months. The deal aims to expand business operations and establish its cannabis subsidiary as a competitive, industry-leading, and well-established brand. This transaction will enable Surterra to rapidly scale its cannabis business across the U.S., entering a fourth major market beyond Florida, Nevada, and Texas. Following the merger, the combined workforce of the two companies exceeds 1,500 employees.
William Wrigley Jr., CEO of Surterra, stated, “This is a mutually beneficial partnership. NETA’s values and reputation align with Surterra’s vision for the sustainable development of the cannabis industry. We warmly welcome NETA’s leadership team, bringing their mature expertise in operations and product development. Their industry experience will support Surterra’s strategic expansion, positioning it as a global leader. Surterra will immediately integrate NETA’s operations in patient and customer service, product research, development and manufacturing, and regulatory compliance to ensure stable year-round growth.”
With the completion of the acquisition, NETA co-founder Kevin Fisher will join Surterra’s leadership team as Executive Director of Operations. A leading figure in the medical and adult-use cannabis industries, Fisher has overseen operations for Rocky Mountain Remedies in Colorado and the NETA brand in Massachusetts since 2009. Fisher also co-founded and served as CEO of Molecular Infusions (Mi), a biopharmaceutical company focused on cannabis.
Kevin Fisher stated, “We will build upon NETA’s existing achievements to deliver exceptional products and services to our current and future patients and customers. Surterra possesses the operational capabilities required to establish an enduring brand and manage operations at scale. Through this partnership, NETA will continue to provide high-quality services to patients and customers in Massachusetts. Furthermore, we will launch multiple initiatives to continuously expand our strategic community partnerships.”
