A company engaged in the cultivation, research, and processing of cannabis
On June 24, VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media reports that Pasha Brands Ltd., Canada’s largest industrial hemp brand, announced the acquisition of CBD Therapeutics, a leading supplier of cannabis products. CBD is a non-psychoactive component of cannabis with pharmacological effects such as antispasmodic, anxiolytic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It can promote calmness and relaxation, making it the most medically valuable compound in cannabis.
Since its inception, CBD Therapeutics has supplied CBD formulations to Canada’s entire pre-legalization market. Following the cessation of sales of its company products on October 17, 2018, CBD Therapeutics has been preparing to enter the regulatory framework established by Health Canada. It is reported that Pasha Brands has acquired all trademarks, trade names, and intellectual property rights associated with the brand and will relaunch it in Canada’s legalized cannabis market.
James Whitehead, CEO of CBD Therapeutics, stated, “Joining Pasha Brands makes it more convenient for customers to purchase CBD products. Collaborating with like-minded companies and teams will help open up markets for CBD Therapeutics and support our growth in market share.”
CBD Therapeutics is one of the only companies in the CBD sector to have developed and offered free CBD educational courses. The company claims that providing these free educational resources has been a major factor in its emergence as one of Canada’s largest CBD retailers.
Patrick Brauckmann, Executive Chairman of Pasha Brands, stated, “We are delighted to have acquired one of Canada’s leading CBD brands. We believe that CBD Therapeutics has built a strong reputation and word-of-mouth in the CBD market, and its established customer base and brand awareness will be highly beneficial to Pasha. This new addition to the Pasha family further demonstrates the growing momentum Pasha is gaining in the emerging cannabis legalization market, while Pasha remains committed to its strategy of acquiring industrial hemp teams and brands.”
Following the legalization of cannabis in Canada, supplies of all cannabis strains were in short supply, but the spotlight remained on the listing of CBD products. The growing prevalence of CBD has attracted attention from various consumer segments, many of whom are first-time users.
By acquiring CBD Therapeutics, Pasha will help narrow the CBD supply gap in the Canadian market. Pasha plans to apply for regulatory approval of its acquired products as legal pharmaceuticals in the second half of 2019, in accordance with Health Canada’s regulations on cannabis-infused foods, beverages, topicals, and extracts.
