Developer of Novel Immunotherapy
On July 2, 2019, VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned that biotechnology company Immunicom announced the completion of an $11 million Series B financing round, led by several private equity firms, with specific investors undisclosed.
The proceeds from this round of financing will be used to advance the company’s clinical trial for triple-negative breast cancer, which commenced on May 31, and to accelerate the ongoing expansion of Immunicom’s global strategic partnerships. Upon completion of this financing round, Immunicom’s total capital will reach $20 million.
Immunicom is a biotechnology company founded in 1983, headquartered in California, USA, and led by its founder and CEO, Amir Jafri. The Immunicom team consists of healthcare industry experts with over 25 years of industry experience.
Immunicom has received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for its non-pharmaceutical solution for treating advanced metastatic cancer. The company has generated over $13 billion in shareholder value, successfully led three IPOs and more than 10 M&A transactions, and commercialized over 50 medical products globally.
Immunicom has extensive experience in the development, clinical and regulatory affairs, manufacturing, and global commercialization of medical devices and drug therapies. The company is dedicated to developing innovative, non-pharmaceutical approaches for treating cancer, inflammatory diseases, and autoimmune disorders. Immunicom’s blood filtration technology can treat various types of cancer, including those that are unresponsive to other therapeutic strategies—such as conventional drugs and biologic-based immunotherapies—while potentially offering fewer side effects.
“We have taken a major step forward in the field of cancer immunotherapy, a treatment that is safer and more effective than most current cancer therapies, while also being highly cost-effective. We are deeply grateful to our investment partners for their capital infusion; it is thanks to their support and trust that we have been able to achieve rapid growth,” said Amir Jafri, Founder and CEO of the company.
Immunicom’s revolutionary new immunotherapy treatment, called Immunopheresis™, revitalizes the immune system of cancer patients to naturally combat tumor cells, without introducing any new chemicals, proteins, or antibodies into the patient’s body.
Immunicom employs a method similar to standard dialysis therapy to remove unwanted waste from patients' blood through external filtration. Immunopheresis™ utilizes Immunicom’s proprietary blood filtration device to extract tumor-derived aberrant proteins from patients' blood, thereby inhibiting the body's immune system from attacking and eradicating tumor cells.
“Immunicom has the potential to fundamentally impact the lives of cancer patients worldwide,” added David Schlotterbeck, Chairman of Immunicom and former Co-Chairman of Cardinal Health. “Immunicom’s medical device has gained a foothold in the market due to its significant potential in treating various types of cancer. Moreover, with simple design modifications, it can be reconfigured to treat other major diseases, thereby disrupting traditional market dynamics and injecting new vitality into the industry.”
