VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that healthcare services provider HCA Healthcare recently announced the acquisition of 24 urgent care centers from Fresenius Medical Care. The specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Upon completion of the acquisition, all 24 urgent care centers will be rebranded as CareNow Urgent Care. Reportedly, CareNow Urgent Care is the unified brand name for HCA Healthcare’s urgent care centers.
This acquisition added eight urgent care centers in North Texas to HCA Healthcare, bringing its total number of urgent care centers across the United States to 160.
Fresenius Medical Care, established in 1996 and headquartered in Saar, Germany, is dedicated to providing renal dialysis treatment for patients with chronic kidney disease. The company operates 2,716 clinics across North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa, having cumulatively provided renal dialysis treatment to over 210,000 patients worldwide.
HCA Healthcare, founded in 1968 and headquartered in Tennessee, USA, is a leading healthcare services company in the United States. The company operates 162 hospitals and 113 independent surgery centers across the United States and the United Kingdom, employing approximately 200,000 people.
HCA Healthcare stated that in 2018, CareNow Urgent Care provided medical services to 10% of the population in the Dallas and Huntsville areas, with more than 770,000 patients visiting its urgent care centers. The company invested over $1.7 billion over four years to build new urgent care centers.
According to the financial report released by HCA Healthcare, in 2018, the company's net income was $3.79 billion, and its revenue was $46.68 billion.
HCA Healthcare CEO Sam Hazen stated, “The emergency medical services market in many regions across the United States, such as Austin, Dallas, and Houston, is experiencing significant growth, with an increasing number of people seeking accessible healthcare close to home. This acquisition will expand our healthcare network in the U.S., providing patients with more convenient access to care.”
According to a report by the Urgent Care Association, as of November 2018, the number of urgent care centers in the United States had increased to 8,774, representing an 8% rise from 2017. Meanwhile, the number of individuals seeking medical services at urgent care centers continued to grow steadily. In 2018, patients visiting urgent care centers accounted for 27% of all medical visits that year.
