"Abbott is committed to advancing transformative therapies in the field of cardiac rhythm management. From Abbott's revolutionary AVEIR leadless pacemaker, to the progress in conduction system pacing (CSP) technology, to the potential of the next-generation EV-ICD today, Abbott is redefining the possibilities for improving patient care on a global scale."
---Randel Woodgrift Senior Vice President of Abbott's Cardiac Rhythm Management Business
ICD is a device implanted by doctors for people at high risk of cardiac arrest and other life-threatening arrhythmias. Traditional ICD leads connect to the heart and monitor its rhythm to help detect dangerous arrhythmias. The collaboration between Abbott and AtaCorExternal Vascular Defibrillator (EV-ICD) adopts a minimally invasive approach, combining the advantages of traditional ICDs with innovative design improvements, which can prevent complications such as vascular injury, lead fractures or malfunctions, and lead infections. By placing the lead components outside the heart and vascular system, this method is expected to address long-standing lead management challenges and may reduce the need for complex corrective surgeries due to transvenous and across-heart structure lead placements.
