Medical Examination Service Provider

On the evening of July 10, Meinian Onehealth Healthcare Holdings Co., Ltd. released an announcement stating that, based on preliminary calculations, the company expects to achieve operating revenue of RMB 3.641 billion in the first half of the year. According to an analysis report by Pacific Securities, the announcement indicates that the company’s operational performance remained stable in the first half of the year, showing a trend of recovery.

The analysis report further points out that revenue in the first half of 2019 continued to grow by 4.5%, mainly due to Meinian Onehealth's greater emphasis on high-quality development during the reporting period, adherence to the "quality and data-driven strategy," continuous investment in and strengthening of the quality control system, and expansion of high-quality resources, which are mainly reflected in four major aspects:

First, increase investment in medical quality, strengthen the implementation of internal control systems, and ensure steady improvements in customer service quality and operational performance;

Second, strengthen technological innovation and carry out in-depth cooperation with renowned medical schools and Grade 3A hospitals in academics, scientific research, and talent development;

Third, accelerate product innovation, vigorously promote the new product "Meinian Good Doctor," and expand in-depth cooperation with high-quality channels;

Fourth, issue $200 million in USD-denominated bonds and introduce state-owned enterprise strategic investors to expand access to high-quality resources.

Focus on Upgrading Medical Quality

Medical safety and quality are the lifelines of healthcare enterprises. In the first half of 2019, Meinian Onehealth continuously strengthened medical quality management by adopting intelligent quality control measures. The company launched an authentication compliance and facial recognition management system for medical staff, as well as a real-time blood testing tracking system. It also continuously upgraded its quality control systems for medical imaging and laboratories. Furthermore, through deep collaboration with renowned Grade A tertiary hospitals in academia, scientific research, and talent development, along with intensified recruitment and training of medical professionals and the introduction of Japan’s high-end health examination service system, Meinian Onehealth has enhanced its technical barriers to ensure steady improvements in service quality and operational excellence.

In June this year, Meinian Onehealth and the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University jointly announced the establishment of the “Ophthalmology Specialty Medical Consortium for Health Checkups.” Leveraging a telemedicine imaging technology platform, the consortium will explore a service model featuring “distributed image acquisition + centralized image analysis,” thereby extending high-quality medical resources to grassroots levels. By employing innovative technologies to enhance the efficiency of image interpretation and diagnosis, it aims to develop high-efficiency, low-cost models for the prevention, control, screening, and treatment of eye diseases, with services covering more than ten provinces, including Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, and Hainan. Furthermore, the two parties will jointly launch a three-year, AI-assisted diagnostic screening project targeting major eye diseases, with an expected coverage of tens of millions of individuals.

Not long ago, Meinian Onehealth partnered with The Carlyle Group to jointly take an equity stake in Adicon, a third-party independent clinical laboratory, thereby integrating resources across the upstream and downstream industry chain. As a third-party independent clinical laboratory, Adicon has established medical laboratories in 19 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government in China. Through Adicon’s ISO 15189-accredited laboratories, the testing standards of Health 100 have been further enhanced.

Furthermore, among global professional health checkup institutions, Meinian Onehealth was the first to introduce the JCI “Gold Standard” accreditation, laying a solid foundation for medical safety and quality. By participating in JCI accreditation and benchmarking against top-tier international standards, and by applying JCI’s theoretical tools for medical safety and quality management, Meinian Onehealth will become a professional health checkup institution with international-quality standards.

It is reported that, in terms of institutional design, Meinian Onehealth has taken the lead in implementing the "Compendium of Eighteen Core Systems," which exceeds industry standards, and has launched the "800-Point Medical Quality Management Assessment Standards." The company has also improved and upgraded its teaching management and performance incentive systems for medical, technical, and nursing staff. Meanwhile, it continues to strengthen the four-tier medical quality control system, conducting cross-inspections and multi-level prevention and control, thereby elevating industry quality control standards to a higher level.

Committed to Quality-Driven Growth

To achieve high-quality development in the true sense, the healthcare industry needs to further strengthen technological innovation. Health 100 believes that “data + technology” is an important support driving the development of the healthcare industry. Major breakthroughs in technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and telemedicine will bring significant changes to the field of life sciences.

As of the end of 2018, Meinian Onehealth (Health 100) operated more than 633 medical examination centers, serving nearly 30 million annual visits.

In the first half of this year, Meinian Onehealth and Philips collaborated on the development of the “AI Breast Intelligent Ultrasound System” based on the Philips Ultrasound AI Platform, targeting breast diseases. Built upon the Philips EPIQ 5 intelligent ultrasound diagnostic system, it provides healthcare professionals with robust decision support through visualization.

It is reported that Meinian Onehealth has taken the lead in introducing 15 units of this equipment, deploying them under its Meizhao brand to address key customer pain points. According to field research reports from securities firms, improvements in ultrasound efficiency and service quality will bolster the healthy development of the entire health checkup industry.

During the same period, at the Ultrasound Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Application Conference hosted by Meinian Onehealth, Health 100 joined hands with the Hangzhou Innovation Center of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data Algorithms and Analytics and the Zhejiang Society of Mathematical Medicine to reach a cooperation agreement in the field of ultrasound AI, jointly establishing a large-scale ultrasound database.

Meanwhile, the Medical Imaging AI Collaborative Development Alliance, initiated by Meinian Onehealth Group, was established at the conference. The alliance calls on the industry and society to actively promote the efficient allocation of resources and the practical implementation of medical imaging AI technologies. Through joint research and development, it aims to collaboratively undertake the project initiation, application, and execution of major national, provincial, and municipal special projects, industrialization funds, and science and technology development funds, thereby achieving an advantageous integration of industry, academia, and research.

In addition to AI-powered ultrasound, Health 100 also deeply recognizes the critical role of AI across various fields of preventive care.

According to the company’s 2018 annual report, a wholly-owned subsidiary—Meinian Health Artificial Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd.—will be established in 2019. The subsidiary will focus on AI-assisted diagnosis for medical imaging, AI-powered ultrasound systems, fundus scanning and AI-based analysis, an intelligent early-warning platform for brain health (including Alzheimer’s disease), intelligent traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health examinations, intelligent design of examination packages and interpretation of reports, intelligent optimization systems for health examination processes, and early screening technologies for major diseases, thereby providing customers with high-quality, personalized, customized, and intelligent health management services.

The future competition in health checkups will be a contest of technological prowess. Technological innovation will reshape the industry’s ecosystem, creating new opportunities for Meinian Onehealth’s endogenous growth.
