2019 Biomedical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Yantian Concludes Successfully

On the morning of July 12, 2019, the Yantian District Preliminary Round of the 11th China Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, held in conjunction with the 2019 Biomedical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (hereinafter referred to as the “Innovation Competition”), successfully concluded at Health Intelligence Valley in Yantian District, Shenzhen. Nine biomedical innovation and entrepreneurship enterprises competed against each other to determine the Best New Star. Ultimately, Jingliang Gene Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and Tumor Tree Biotechnology Co., Ltd. were awarded first place in the Enterprise Category and Team Category, respectively.

Guided and hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Commission and the Yantian District People’s Government, this innovation competition was co-organized by the Yantian District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau and Shenzhen Health Intelligence Valley, with support from Dabaihui Life and Health Industrial Park. Attendees included Luo Yi, Deputy District Mayor of Yantian District; Dai Zhongqun, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Technology Transfer Promotion Center; Wang Jing, Deputy Director of the Yantian District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau; Sun Zhen, Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Management; Zhang Cailian, Chairman of Dabaihui Industrial Park; and Hu Chanjuan, Executive General Manager of Shenzhen Health Intelligence Valley and Secretary-General of the Zhongguancun Meinian Health Industry Research Institute.


Meanwhile, the competition invited five renowned investors from the industry to serve as judges for this year’s event, including Liu Ying, Partner at SoftBank China; Huang Tianlong, Chairman and President of Anying Capital; Wang Feizhou, Vice President of Tianyi Group and Partner at Zhongwei Fund; Liu Kan, Vice President of China Merchants Capital; and Shi Jinwen, Partner at Zhuoshi Capital. The event also attracted numerous entrepreneurs and industry professionals to attend and observe.

 

Centered in Yantian District, Shenzhen, and casting a wide net across China’s biopharmaceutical sector, this innovation competition targets startups and projects engaged in mass entrepreneurship and innovation. It fully leverages the guiding and supportive role of the government to unlock the innovative potential of small, micro, and early-stage enterprises, jointly advancing the development of Yantian’s biopharmaceutical industry and accelerating its optimization and upgrading. In addition to first, second, and third prizes with substantial cash awards, this year’s Yantian Innovation Competition has introduced the “Excellent Partner Award” and the “Wutong Innovation Potential Award” to incentivize shortlisted enterprises and teams. By emphasizing cross-disciplinary innovation, exchange, and collaboration within specialized segments of the biopharmaceutical field, the competition has made thorough preparations to attract high-quality, original enterprises and projects, thereby playing a highly positive role in further facilitating their establishment and implementation in Yantian District.

As the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition kicked off, Wang Jing, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Bureau of Yantian District, Shenzhen, expressed high recognition and praise for the achievements made in recent years, and extended congratulations to the enterprises and teams that advanced to the grand finals. Since its inception, the competition has successfully attracted widespread attention from innovation and entrepreneurship elites both domestically and internationally. Thanks to the strong support from the district government and various institutions and organizations, the teams represented by Yantian District in the previous competition demonstrated outstanding strength, achieving a 66% advancement rate to the industry finals of the municipal competition, ranking first across the city. In this year’s competition, Yantian District once again achieved remarkable results: the biomedical track received registrations from 178 enterprises and projects, with 45 enterprises and 22 teams shortlisted for the semifinals, breaking records from previous years and fully demonstrating the effectiveness of event management and publicity. Yantian District, Shenzhen, regards the biomedical industry as a key development direction, leveraging its unique resource advantages and supporting environment, and has already selected a batch of excellent projects with strong growth momentum and significant development potential.

 

In the future, the Yantian District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau will adhere to the principle of “Two Persistences”: persisting in professional event organization and integrating events with industry, so as to enhance event quality and accelerate project implementation. Meanwhile, Yantian District will seize new opportunities arising from the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, take the lead in developing the life and health industry, and boldly assume the role of a “bridgehead.”

Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Management, Sun Zhen, expressed high praise for the achievements of the Yantian Division of the Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in his address. He expressed hope that the competition would facilitate the integration of advanced Australian technologies and high-quality projects with the Chinese market, leveraging the “attracting talent through competition” model to pool global resources. By joining hands with Yantian District to build the Pilot Demonstration Area of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, he aims to make due contributions to the development of both the Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and Shenzhen as a whole.

Hu Chanjuan, Executive General Manager of Shenzhen Health Intelligence Valley and Secretary-General of the Zhongguancun Meinian Health Industry Research Institute, stated in her opening remarks that the total number of registrations for this year’s Yantian District Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Biomedical Competition increased by approximately 59% compared to 2018, reaching an unprecedented level of enthusiasm. The competition framework was designed to be fairer, more open, and impartial, striving to provide high-quality services to enterprises and meet their needs for financing, brand promotion, and exploration of collaborative opportunities. Government Leaders Present Awards to Winning Enterprises and Projects


After overcoming numerous obstacles and competing fiercely, nine high-quality enterprises ultimately advanced to the finals. Their projects cover current hotspots in the biopharmaceutical industry, including the development of tumor detection kits, clinical applications, rapid microbial testing, early HIV diagnosis, intelligent translation, molecular diagnostic reference materials, cell storage and regenerative medicine, genetic testing for hereditary diseases, and chip-based sweat analysis.


After a morning of intense competition and evaluation by a panel of professional investor judges, Jingliang Gene Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. won the First Prize in the Corporate Category; Xiaobo Health Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Zhanxing Biology Co., Ltd. won the Second Prize in the Corporate Category; Shenzhen Shuaxin Intelligent Electronics Co., Ltd., Jiahe Hongsheng (Shenzhen) Health Industry Group Co., Ltd., and Shenzhen Yunyi Technology Co., Ltd. won the Third Prize in the Corporate Category; Shanghai Tushu Biotechnology Co., Ltd. won the First Prize in the Team Category; Shanghai Zhengu Biotechnology Co., Ltd. won the Second Prize in the Team Category; and Beijing Nuohexinkang Gene Technology Co., Ltd. won the Third Prize in the Team Category.

Since the establishment of the three-tier linkage mechanism for national, municipal, and district-level innovation and entrepreneurship competitions in 2017, the Yantian District Competition has demonstrated distinct industry-specific characteristics and submitted high-quality teams, repeatedly winning awards at the municipal level.
