On July 22, 2019, VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned that ZOLL Medical announced the acquisition of most assets of the U.S. medical device company Mobilize RRS, with the purchase price undisclosed.
ZOLL Medical Corporation, established in 1980 and headquartered in Massachusetts, USA, is a medical device company. As a subsidiary of the Asahi Kasei Group, ZOLL Medical provides a comprehensive suite of products and technologies—including automated external defibrillators (AEDs), cardiac monitors, data management platforms, and fluid resuscitation technologies—to clinicians, fire professionals, and lay rescuers. These emergency care medical devices and associated software solutions help them treat critically ill patients in emergency situations.
Mobilize RRS was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in New York, USA. The company primarily sells the Mobilize Rescue Systems app and related rescue kits. Medical professionals, veterans, and software developers at Mobilize RRS integrate modern medical supplies and innovative applications into the Mobilize Rescue Systems platform.
Given that the average ambulance response time is approximately 7–15 minutes, bystanders often represent the best hope for a victim’s survival. However, most bystanders lack relevant medical knowledge. Mobilize Rescue Systems provides an intuitive platform for untrained bystanders to manage various medical emergencies. Before emergency medical services arrive, the system offers step-by-step guidance to help bystanders treat patients suffering from severe bleeding, cardiac arrest, seizures, choking, chest trauma, hypothermia, burns, and other conditions.
It is reported that each Mobilize Rescue Systems product within the Mobilize RRS lineup includes medical devices paired with interactive software. The Mobilize Rescue Systems app guides users in employing the rescue kit to save the lives of critically ill or injured individuals. The program primarily assesses victims by asking closed-ended “yes or no” questions, then highlights the correctly color-coded and labeled equipment, providing simple instructions on how to assist the victim.
U.S. federal and local law enforcement agencies, security and investigative firms, K-12 schools and universities, as well as public and private organizations, have adopted Mobilize Rescue Systems products for use in medical emergencies across the United States.
“ZOLL provides high-quality automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to help people save the lives of cardiac arrest patients,” said Elijah A. White, President of ZOLL Resuscitation. “Mobilize Rescue Systems will be an extension of ZOLL’s product portfolio, as it enables people to provide emergency care for patients with nearly all types of medical conditions.”
“This transaction will have a positive impact on saving more lives,” said Jeffrey Gerstner, CEO of Mobilize RRS. “Leveraging ZOLL’s extensive network, our emergency response technologies will help more patients worldwide.”
