Supplier of Sterile Processing and Operating Room Supplies
On July 24, 2019, VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned that Key Surgical, a global leader in sterile processing and operating room supplies, announced the acquisition of Germany-based Insitumed GmbH (hereinafter referred to as “Insitumed”). This strategic acquisition will expand Key Surgical’s endoscopy product portfolio and further strengthen its global operations.
Key Surgical is a global leader in sterile processing and operating room supply solutions, headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Key Surgical supplies thousands of products to nearly 10,000 healthcare institutions across 70 countries, primarily focusing on medical devices, operating room consumables, and surgical supplies. Key Surgical is a subsidiary of Water Street Healthcare Partners.
Founded in 2000, Insitumed is a leading supplier in the field of flexible endoscopes and ranks among the top ten global suppliers of endoscopic instruments. Its main product portfolio includes flexible endoscopes, protective gowns, and surgical hooks. Previously, the company primarily served markets in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Poland, but it began its international transformation in 2016. In recent years, internationalization has become a key strategic priority for Insitumed. Seeking to accelerate its expansion into international markets and distribute its products globally, Insitumed’s partnership with Key Surgical appears to be a sound strategic move.
Key Surgical’s acquisition of Insitumed aims to expand its product and supply kit portfolio, thereby enhancing patient safety during surgical procedures. Since its merger with Interlock Medizintechnik GmbH and Clinipak in 2017, Key Surgical has experienced particularly rapid business growth. Upon completion of this acquisition, Key Surgical will integrate Insitumed’s endoscopic products into its existing portfolio of over 5,000 items, which includes solutions for the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments as well as surgical consumables.
JV Wulf, President of Key Surgical Europe, stated, “Insitumed is highly regarded for its innovative, customer-centric product development philosophy and its strong relationships with hospitals. The integration of our two companies marks another significant step forward in the field of key surgical procedures. We will continue to expand and strengthen our product supply chain, benefiting our customers worldwide and the patients they treat.”
Wolfgang Drews, General Manager of Insitumed, stated, “We are delighted to partner with Key Surgical. Our products are highly complementary, and the merger presents a significant opportunity for us to substantially scale our product portfolio and distribute our offerings worldwide.”
The financial terms of this acquisition have not been disclosed.
