Over RMB 100 Billion Golden Track Set to Explode: 'Special Report on Innovation in Rehabilitation Medicine' Unveils Insights and Product Highlights Ahead of Official Launch

Jul 30, 2019 18:25 CST Updated 18:25

Driven by the combined forces of policy, capital, and technology, the future development trajectory of rehabilitation medicine is becoming increasingly clear. China’s rehabilitation medical industry, with a market valued at hundreds of billions of yuan, is on the verge of takeoff, offering broad prospects. VCBeat positions itself in the rehabilitation sector with the mission to “build a healthy ecosystem for the rehabilitation industry and empower the next golden track.” By leveraging its advantageous resources and launching a series of initiatives, we propose three core strategies: “clarifying the landscape, setting benchmarks, and gathering core strengths.” These efforts aim to help innovative rehabilitation enterprises expand their brand influence, facilitate efficient matchmaking and deep integration between capital and enterprises, and promote comprehensive and healthy development in the field of rehabilitation.

To provide an in-depth analysis of the new landscape in rehabilitation and promote the establishment of industry benchmarks, VCBeat spent one month interviewing over 40 authoritative experts in rehabilitation and related fields, reviewing more than 100 relevant publications, conducting multi-channel market research, and collecting first-hand industry data through online corporate interviews. Based on these efforts, VCBeat authored the “Special Research Report on Innovation in Rehabilitation Medicine,” which will be prominently released on August 22 at the Golden Track: Rehabilitation Roadshow, an event hosted by VCBeat and Zero2IPO Capital, with co-organization by Zhongguancun Technology Leasing.

2022 Market Size Estimated to Exceed RMB 100 Billion, Rehabilitation Medicine Enters a Period of Explosive Growth

According to market research, the per capita rehabilitation expenditure in China was approximately RMB 32 in 2018. With rising income levels and increased spending on rehabilitation services, per capita expenditure is projected to reach around RMB 74 by 2022, at which point the total market size for rehabilitation in China is expected to hit RMB 103.3 billion. Data from 2018 on the distribution of rehabilitation patients shows that postoperative patients accounted for more than one-third of the total. As a group with strong demand for rehabilitation services, postoperative patients constituted the largest segment served by China’s rehabilitation market. Looking ahead, the elderly population will become the primary source of growth in the rehabilitation market. We estimate that approximately 30% of the elderly population requires rehabilitation medical services; this would translate to an additional 28 million elderly individuals needing such care, bringing the total number of elderly rehabilitation patients to over 76 million. In particular, disabled and partially disabled seniors will emerge as the key focus group for rehabilitation services.

Analysis of Pain Points Across 9 Subcategories of Rehabilitation Medical Institutions, Pointing to New Directions for the Development of Rehabilitation Healthcare

For the various institutions in the rehabilitation medical service market, we have identified the pressing pain points that currently need to be addressed. For instance, rehabilitation robots are mainly concentrated in a few areas such as bone and joint rehabilitation, hearing and vision rehabilitation, and speech rehabilitation. In the future, greater technological innovation is needed to expand their applications into fields like cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and neurological rehabilitation. Rehabilitation information systems still need to further resolve connectivity issues with other hospital systems such as HIS, LIS, and PACS. The construction and operation of rehabilitation departments require differentiated rehabilitation services to establish core competitiveness...

Analysis of Investment and Financing Data for 54 Rehabilitation Companies: Uncovering the Next High-Potential Sector

Based on the distribution pattern of the rehabilitation medical industry, VCBeat has compiled financing and investment data for 54 rehabilitation companies across ten sub-sectors, including rehabilitation robotics, rehabilitation informatics, tele-rehabilitation, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. By further analyzing the distribution of financing hotspots within these sub-sectors, we found that all financing amounts in the rehabilitation robotics sector were RMB 10 million or more (according to typical financing patterns, Tianyu’s Series B round should also exceed RMB 10 million), with six deals occurring prior to Series A. Similarly, there were five financing rounds in the tele-rehabilitation sector amounting to RMB 10 million or more (Jinglun Century’s Series A round is estimated to exceed RMB 10 million), and six deals occurred at Series A or earlier. According to the nine-box model for evaluating industry development potential, both rehabilitation robotics and tele-rehabilitation are classified as high-potential sectors.
