On August 7, 2019, VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned that digital health company BlueDot had completed a $7 million Series A financing round. The round was led by The Co-Operators Insurance Group and BDC Venture Capital, with participation from Horizons Ventures.

It is reported that BlueDot completed a $375,000 seed funding round in 2013 and a $2.1 million Series A funding round in 2015. To date, the company’s total financing has reached $9.5 million.

Following this round of financing, BlueDot will further develop its AI-powered prediction system for major infectious diseases and expand its products to the global market.

Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Toronto, Canada, the digital health company BlueDot is dedicated to protecting people worldwide from infectious diseases through artificial intelligence technologies. By combining medical and public health expertise with advanced data analytics, the company tracks and predicts the global spread of infectious diseases to design optimal solutions.

Dr. Kamran Khan, Founder and CEO of BlueDot, stated: “Our world is changing rapidly, with outbreaks that threaten human health, safety, and prosperity increasing in both frequency and scale. BlueDot is harnessing the power of big data and artificial intelligence to accelerate the dissemination of knowledge on infectious diseases. Our products enable clients to gain timely, targeted situational awareness, thereby enhancing their resilience against infectious diseases.”

“BlueDot’s work generates positive social and environmental impact, and we are delighted to see how the company’s data analytics and predictive technologies help strengthen people’s capacity to prevent infectious diseases,” said Rob Wesseling, President and Chief Executive Officer of BlueDot.

“BlueDot has made a significant global impact by leveraging artificial intelligence and big data,” said Michelle Scarborough, Managing Director at BDC Venture Capital. “We are impressed with their progress to date and their growing recognition within the global health community. We believe that BlueDot is well-positioned for further expansion worldwide, backed by its strong and diverse leadership team.”

Amine Benmoussa, head of BDC Capital, added, “BlueDot integrates artificial intelligence, big data, and epidemiology to create a unique early warning system. Their platform has revolutionized the way global infectious disease outbreaks are analyzed and predicted, providing healthcare systems, government agencies, and insurance companies with predictive tools of immense potential.”
