2. Trump Releases "Great Healthcare Plan," Makes Bold Gamble on Healthcare Reform Ahead of Election
Trump Pushes Congress to Pass His Healthcare Reform Plan Ahead of Election: A Bold Gamble to Address Republican WeaknessTrump has urged Congress to pass legislation implementing his healthcare reform plan just before the election, in a bold gamble to tackle the Republicans' political vulnerability. The plan focuses on lowering drug prices and insurance premiums. It includes codifying the voluntary price-reduction agreements Trump reached with pharmaceutical companies, making more drugs available over-the-counter; calling for billions of dollars in premium subsidies to be distributed directly to consumers; ending rebates paid to large broker middlemen for prescription drugs, accusing them of inflating healthcare costs; and imposing new requirements on health insurers to promote transparency in claim denials and wait times, as well as demanding simpler language in insurance policies. However, while the White House has touted this proposal as a "comprehensive plan," it lacks many specific details crucial to lawmakers.
3. 600,000! Zhejiang University Proposes to Transfer Four Patents Related to Exosomes
From December 31, 2025, to January 14, 2026, Zhejiang University publicly disclosed a significant patent achievement transfer, proposing to transfer four exosome-related technology patents for 600,000 yuan. The patents covered by this transfer span four high-demand biomedicine fields: wound repair, skin anti-aging, superficial tumor treatment, and peripheral nerve repair. Through an innovative approach of "natural ingredients + multi-technology synergy," these patents provide new solutions to long-standing clinical treatment challenges and inject fresh vitality into the industrial application of exosome technology.
It is worth mentioning that the four patents do not exist in isolation but form a mutually supportive technical matrix. They can be independently developed into different categories of medical products or consumer-grade skincare products, or integrated to build a bio-medical material platform covering multiple fields, further enhancing the commercial value of the technology. With the advancement of subsequent clinical research and the gradual implementation of product registration applications, this exosome technology originating from Zhejiang University is expected to achieve rapid industrial transformation. While bringing significant economic benefits to the transforming party, it will also promote the technological upgrade of China's bio-medical materials field and bring good news to more patients.
4. Medtronic's Entry + Record-Breaking $2 Billion Financing, Brain-Computer Interface Takes Off!
On January 12 local time, Medtronic, a major player in the medical device industry, reached a strategic partnership with Precision, a leading brain-computer interface (BCI) company, to develop an integrated solution combining Precision's Layer 7 BCI technology with Medtronic’s surgical navigation system. This marks the recognition by a top-tier medical device company of the clinical potential of BCIs. Precision, a leader in invasive BCIs and a key competitor of Neuralink, gained FDA approval in April last year for its high-resolution cortical electrode array used in the Layer 7 BCI — the first approved system of its kind and a significant milestone in the BCI field. The electrode array is installed on the brain's surface through minimally invasive surgery, without drilling or craniotomy, consisting of 1,024 electrodes that are only one-fifth the thickness of a hair strand, and it is reversible and non-damaging. In October last year, Precision published a paper in Nature detailing the design of the electrode array. Early clinical studies have shown that it can capture brain signals for decoding and neural stimulation. As of October last year, Precision had completed implants in more than 50 patients.
