From the “Outline of the ‘Healthy China 2030’ Planning” to the “Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Promoting the Development of ‘Internet + Healthcare’,” and further to the Government Work Report delivered at this year’s Two Sessions, the healthcare industry has been reaping policy dividends. Entrepreneurship and innovation in the healthcare sector have gained increasing momentum, attracting growing attention from investors. In terms of average funding amount per deal, the figure remained relatively stable at approximately RMB 40 million between 2014 and 2017. In 2018, however, the average funding amount per deal surged to RMB 95 million, representing an increase of around 130% compared with previous years.
The 1st “Baierke Guojian Cup” International Medical Innovation Competition, themed “Direct to Cleveland,” aims to better implement relevant policies, empower healthcare, identify, nurture, and select high-quality projects, and accelerate the comprehensive and balanced development of the healthcare ecosystem. The finals will be held on September 19, 2019, at Headquarters City in Yuzhong District, Chongqing.

Early this year, the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the People’s Government of Yuzhong District, Chongqing, and Chongqing Medical University jointly signed the “Agreement on Co-building the Innovation Ecosystem Around Chongqing Medical University.” Under their guidance, and building upon the strategic cooperation agreement signed between the Chongqing International Medical Innovation Center and Cleveland Clinic, the inaugural Bairuike Guojian Cup “Direct to Cleveland” International Healthcare Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was launched.
The competition is jointly hosted by the Science and Technology Bureau of Yuzhong District, Chongqing Municipality; the Administrative Committee for the Construction of the Dashihua New Area, Yuzhong District, Chongqing Municipality; Chongqing International Medical Innovation Center; and Sinopharm Medical Device Research Institute, with Chongqing Science and Technology Venture CapitalCo., Ltd., Baichuanghui International Biotechnology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd., Shanghai Chuangrui Investment Management Co., Ltd., Guojian Capital (Guangzhou) Medical Investment Co., Ltd., VCBeat, Chongqing HuaxiCo-organized by the Health Industry Technology Transfer Center and Guojian Medical Technology Co., Ltd., the initiative began recruiting participants across China on July 5, 2019, gathering the most innovative enterprises in the three hot sectors: medical devices, healthcare services, and smart healthcare.
Expert judges from various regions conducted a comprehensive evaluation of over 100 competing projects, assessing their business models, technological domains, development stages, team capabilities, and application scenarios. After a rigorous two-month selection process, nineteen projects emerged victorious through multiple rounds of competition to secure their places in the finals of the inaugural Bairuike Guojian Cup “Direct to Cleveland” International Medical Innovation Competition. The shortlisted projects are as follows:

The competition plans to invite renowned medical experts, senior executives from leading investment firms, healthcare company executives, and other professionals in the medical industry to form the judging panel for the grand finals, providing multi-perspective evaluations of the finalist projects.
Competition Agenda

The finals will award first, second, and third prizes. Winning projects will have the opportunity to form the Chinese delegation to attend the “2019 Cleveland Medical Innovation Summit,” held at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland in Cleveland, USA, from October 21 to October 23, 2019.
