On June 8, the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases released the "Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China 2018." The report indicates that the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in China remains on the rise, with an estimated 290 million affected individuals. This includes 13 million stroke patients, 11 million patients with coronary heart disease, and 4.5 million patients with heart failure. The average age of patients undergoing coronary stent implantation in China is 62 years. Deaths attributable to cardiovascular diseases account for more than 40% of all disease-related deaths among residents, ranking first among all causes of death.
To promote the continuous development of cardiac surgery in China and foster innovative integration across the entire industry-academia-research-application chain in the cardiovascular field, the “FTC2019 1st China Frontiers in Cardiac Surgery Technology Forum” will be held at the Sheraton Beijing Lido Hotel on November 9–10, 2019.

Hosted by the Cardiac Surgery Professional Committee of the China Medical Education Association and the Cardiovascular Surgery Technology and Engineering Branch of the China Medical Biotechnology Association, co-organized by Da Yisheng Bingqi Pu, and undertaken by VCBeat, this forum will invite over 100 physicians and experts specializing in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and chronic disease management in the cardiovascular field, as well as guests from major pharmaceutical companies, medical device enterprises, and innovative startups. With the participation of more than 800 physicians, department heads, and industry professionals in the cardiovascular sector, the forum will focus on four key themes—technological innovation, discipline development, industrial collaboration, and capital perspectives—to facilitate exchanges and discussions on technological innovations and their applications in the cardiovascular field.
Departmental Development and Technological Innovation: A Dual-Pronged Approach to Advancing the Discipline of Cardiac Surgery
In 2015, the total number of hospital discharges for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in China was 18.8772 million, accounting for 12.87% of the total number of discharges during the same period. Among these, cardiovascular diseases accounted for 6.61% (9.7002 million cases), and cerebrovascular diseases accounted for 6.25% (9.177 million cases). Among discharges for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, coronary heart disease (CHD) accounted for 6.8131 million cases, or 36.2%, including 602,700 cases of acute myocardial infarction (AMI); cerebral infarction accounted for 5.7145 million cases, or 30.27%. From 1980 to 2015, the annual average growth rate of hospital discharges for cardiovascular diseases in China was 9.96%, which was higher than the average growth rate of total hospital discharges during the same period (6.27%).
However, the current capacity of cardiac surgery services in China is insufficient to meet the potential demand for millions of procedures. Due to the high surgical risks and stringent technical requirements, performing cardiac surgeries is unthinkable for many hospital directors at prefecture-level and county-level hospitals.
How Can We Advance the Field of Cardiovascular Medicine and Save More Patients? Professor Sun Lizhong, Incoming Chairman of the Chinese Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Chinese Medical Association, Proposes a Dual-Pronged Approach: On one hand, provide support to grassroots institutions by strengthening cardiovascular surgery departments in tertiary hospitals located in China’s second- and third-tier cities; on the other hand, promote cutting-edge scientific research and innovation, encouraging and supporting the development of innovative medical devices.
On November 9, FTC2019 will invite more than 40 experts in cardiac surgery, including Sun Lizhong, President-Elect of the Chinese Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery under the Chinese Medical Association; Xu Shangdong, Secretary-General of the Cardiovascular Surgery Technology and Engineering Branch of the China Medicine Biotechnology Association; and Zheng Jun, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Cardiac Surgery Professional Committee of the China Medical Education Association. Also attending are Ke Min, episode director of *The Two Hundred Years of Surgery*, as well as innovative enterprises from the sectors of medical device consumables, pharmaceuticals, health informatics, and telemedicine. The event will feature the release of the *Expert Consensus on Surgical Procedures for Aortic Surgery*, share innovative cases of frontier cardiac surgical techniques, and foster discussions between clinical practitioners and industry stakeholders on department development and physician training.

Clinical Demand, Corporate Innovation, and Capital Support Drive End-to-End Innovation in the Cardiovascular Field
Several months ago, Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University successfully performed an implantation procedure using a new-generation thin-walled bioresorbable scaffold (BIOMAGIC), provided by the domestic company Maiquan Medical. In March 2019, Lepu Medical’s bioresorbable sirolimus-eluting coronary stent system received approval for production. In June, Mandi Medical’s magnetocardiography device was approved by the Shanghai CFDA and obtained a medical device registration certificate, marking the first domestically approved magnetocardiography device in China...
On June 8, the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases recently released the "Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China 2018." The report indicates that the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in China continues to rise, with an estimated 290 million affected individuals. Driven by substantial clinical demand and significant investments of human resources and capital, entrepreneurs have pioneered numerous innovations in screening, diagnosis, surgical planning, surgical consumables, and artificial hearts. With technological advancements, an increasing number of innovative products are emerging in the field of cardiology.
On November 10, FTC2019 will invite influential medical experts in cardiology, radiology, and cardiothoracic surgery—including Sun Lizhong, President-Elect of the Chinese Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery under the Chinese Medical Association, and Liu Shiyuan, President-Elect of the Chinese Society of Radiology—along with entrepreneurs across the industry chain, industrial investors, and innovative enterprises in the fields of early screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and chronic disease management, to jointly explore collaboration and innovation in the cardiovascular industry.
