Innovative Design: Combination of Aspiration and Mechanical Thrombectomy

According to Inari Medical, a company under the global medical technology giant Stryker,Artix™ Thrombectomy SystemIt is a composite device designed based on guidewire, aiming to solve fromAcute to ChronicThrombus load at different stages. This system innovatively combines negative pressure aspiration with mechanical thrombectomy, providing clinicians with a more comprehensive solution.

This product is provided by StrykerMarch 6, 2025Officially launched for the treatment of peripheral arterial thromboembolismArtix™ Thrombectomy SystemThis move marks that Inari Medical, which enjoys a prestigious reputation in the field of venous thrombosis treatment, has expanded its technical scope to the arterial field. This is also the first significant milestone after Stryker announced the acquisition of Inari Medical in February 2025.

The core technical features of the Artix system include

• Optimized Catheter Design: The system is equipped with an 8F, low-profile, highly compliant, and anti-fracture sheath, offering excellent passability. It is currently available in two length specifications: 65 cm and 90 cm.

• Blood Flow Occlusion Protection: The device is designed with aCoated Nitinol Mesh Basket StructureDuring the surgical procedure, this structure can provide temporary blood flow occlusion. The key to this design is to minimize the risk of arterial thrombus detachment during the operation, which could lead to distal embolism.

Clinical Evaluation: Expected to Replace Some Open Surgeries

Inari Medical revealed that the first commercial surgery using the Artix system was completed in 2024, performed by Professor Jonathan Bowman, Director of Vascular Surgery at Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut, USA.

Regarding the clinical performance of this new technology,Professor Bowman gave high praise."The introduction of the Artix thrombectomy system represents a significant advancement in the treatment of peripheral arterial thromboembolism. With Artix, I finally have a solution that effectively addresses various complex thrombus formations while maintaining full control over vascular access throughout the procedure."I expect that in many cases of arterial thrombosis, Artix will be expected to replace traditional open surgical repair.

Industry Background

The Artix system is the first medical device specifically targeting arterial lesions released by Inari Medical. Previously, the company established its market leadership in the venous thromboembolism (VTE) treatment field with its FlowTriever and ClotTriever systems. Following Stryker's acquisition of Inari, the launch of the Artix system further enhances Stryker’s product portfolio in the vascular intervention space, not only solidifying its advantages in venous treatment but also heralding its entry into the arterial thrombectomy market.

A Comment

Embolic Protection: The design concept of its "coated net basket" is similar to a combination of proximal balloon occlusion and distal protection umbrella. Whether this integrated anti-distal embolization design is more user-friendly than existing protective devices is a key point in clinical operation.
