Changping District, Beijing Aims to Fully Establish a Brain-Computer Interface Industrial Cluster by the End of the 15th Five-Year Plan

Du Yongji, Director of the Pharmaceutical and Health Industry Division of the Future Science City Management Committee, introduced that in terms of industrial innovation, the cluster is home to a number of top research institutions such as the Beijing Institute of Brain Science and Intelligence Technology, Changping Laboratory, and the Beijing Life Sciences Institute. It has attracted industry-leading talents like Luo Minmin and Liu Hesheng, and transformed and drawn in leading enterprises and high-growth startups such as NEUCYBER, Galaxy Farvision, MicroDream Medical, New Cloud Medical, and NotionBrain. The cluster has also established close cooperative relationships with top hospitals within the park, including Peking University International Hospital, Gaobo International Research Hospital, Peking University Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as Tiantan Hospital, Xuanwu Hospital, and Peking Union Medical College Hospital.

In terms of industrial achievements, companies within the zone have achieved several technological breakthroughs. Based on globally leading individual brain function partitioning technology, Galaxy Fangyuan has built a full-chain solution from targeted positioning to non-invasive regulation, achieving breakthroughs in the treatment of difficult brain diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and refractory depression. NEUCYBER's "BrainX1" semi-invasive brain-computer interface product enables high-throughput wireless full implantation with over a hundred channels and has successfully completed surgical implants for multiple patients. Clinical applications show that patients paralyzed due to spinal cord injuries have improved functions through this system, ranging from grasping small objects with their hands to walking with the help of crutches. Its next-generation fully invasive product, "BrainX2," has also entered the engineering prototype development stage, which will fill the gap in high-performance invasive brain-computer interface technology in China.

"Next, we will adopt a series of measures to promote the implementation of new brain science and brain-computer interface technologies, products, and models in various scenarios. By the end of the '15th Five-Year Plan,' we aim to fully establish a distinctive brain-computer industry cluster, achieving industrial innovation capabilities and overall strength ranking among the world's best," said Du Yongji. He introduced that Changping District will accelerate the introduction and implementation of special industrial support policies, advance the construction of cluster carriers, and create exhibition centers, incubation, and common technology platforms. Meanwhile, efforts will be made to precisely attract corporate clustering, promote the transformation of scientific research achievements, and integrate industrial chains. Changping District will also establish and guide special funds and social capital investment, continuously optimize the business environment, deepen industry-university-research collaboration, host high-level industrial events, and attract top global talent.
