Cardiac surgery is the most recently established specialty among all surgical disciplines. In just 70 years, physicians have achieved repeated breakthroughs through imaginative approaches combined with innovations in medical devices and materials, continually rewriting the history of cardiac surgery. As the incidence of cardiovascular diseases rises, treatment modalities and concepts are gradually being updated, leading to continuous increases in surgical volume and efficacy. Consequently, cardiac surgery has entered an era characterized by innovative integration. Standing on the shoulders of giants, amidst the rapid advancement of biomedical and information technologies, we may witness even more groundbreaking innovations.
On August 12, to promote the continuous development of China’s cardiovascular field and foster innovative integration among industry, academia, research, and clinical practice, the Cardiac Surgery Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Education Association, the Cardiovascular Surgery Technology and Engineering Branch of the Chinese Medicine Biotechnology Association, and VCBeat jointly launched the “Starting from the Heart—Call for Top 10 Cardiovascular Technology Innovation Cases in China 2019” campaign. The initiative broadly solicited innovative cases in cardiac surgery technologies from medical institutions at all levels and types, as well as from companies in the medical device, pharmaceutical, and healthcare service sectors.
After nearly two months of online solicitation and preliminary screening, we have selected 44 innovative cases to compete for the honor of “Top Ten Cardiovascular Technology Innovation Cases in China.” We are reporting on the cases submitted to this call, providing an in-depth analysis of their methodologies, pathways, and outcomes, and summarizing best practices to create a special feature on “Technological Innovation in the Cardiovascular Field.” This feature will also serve as a key component of the long-anticipated cardiovascular industry event, the “FTC2019 China Frontier Technologies Forum in Cardiac Surgery.” (To learn more about the forum, please click:https://vcbeat.top/FTC2019)
