Cannabis Product Developer and Distributor
VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that on October 10, Canavation Product Group (“Canavation”), a newly established Delaware corporation, announced its acquisition of the consumer products division of Teewinot Life Sciences (“Teewinot”). The specific terms of the transaction were not publicly disclosed.
Canavation, led by Bill Barlow, is an international product development and sales company that primarily develops highly differentiated consumer products and expands its product lines. The company holds exclusive rights to pharmaceutical-grade CBD and other rare cannabinoids, which are sourced from hemp grown under organic conditions or produced through patented transformation and biocatalysis technologies.
Compared with traditional consumer-centric cannabis companies, Canavation is rapidly entering the cannabis consumer products sector and possesses multiple market advantages. Through acquisition, Canavation has also obtained a patent issued to Teewinot (Patent No. US7399872B2), which covers technologies for converting cannabis-derived CBD into Δ8-THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and conventional Δ9-THC.
Δ8-THC is a rare and difficult-to-produce cannabinoid that offers greater medicinal value compared to Δ9-THC. This presents Canavation with a significant opportunity to expand its Δ8-THC market, and the company plans to license this patent regionally to qualified manufacturers.
Bill Barlow, CEO of Canavation, stated, “In the consumer-facing market, a company must possess competitive advantages to stand out. Through this acquisition, Canavation combines premium ingredients with proprietary technologies, creating a technological edge that will help us maintain our leadership position in the cannabis consumer products sector.”
In addition to this transaction, the two companies have entered into a strategic supply agreement under which Teewinot will grant Canavation exclusive global rights to utilize Teewinot’s proprietary CannSynthesis® biotechnology platform for the production of rare cannabinoids for consumers.
Canavation plans to establish multiple joint ventures with top-tier brands. The company will provide high-quality cannabinoids, formulation and development support, as well as educational and claims support.
Teewinot is a global leader in the biosynthetic development and manufacturing of cannabinoids and their derivatives. The company leverages its unique biocatalytic and chemical synthesis platforms to produce a wide range of cannabinoids and cannabis-derived new chemical entities (NCEs), from bench-scale to cGMP-compliant production. With its cost-effective, commercially scalable approach, Teewinot is transforming the synthetic cannabinoid landscape to meet the growing global demand for cannabinoid-based products addressing unmet health, wellness, and therapeutic needs.
To focus on the commercialization of the cansynthesis® platform and the development of its pharmaceutical production lines, Teewinot has chosen to sell its consumer products division.
Teewinot’s CannSynthesis® platform is the world’s only patented biocatalytic process for the production of rare cannabinoids, spanning from bench-scale to cGMP commercial-scale manufacturing. Leveraging a modular biosynthetic approach, the platform enables the efficient and rapid production of specific rare cannabinoids. During the biocatalytic process, the CannSynthesis® platform also incorporates various proprietary chemical transformations to convert bio-derived cannabinoids into other rare cannabinoid variants.
