Medical Enterprise Incubator Company
VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on October 7, 2019, EP Map-System GmbH (EP Map), a German company specializing in electrophysiology (EP) technology, announced the completion of a $25 million Series A financing round. The round was led by Ajax Health.
EP Map is a medical technology company based in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, with over 20 years of R&D experience in cardiac electrophysiology. Its product portfolio includes 3D mapping and navigation systems that integrate signal recording, step measurement systems, radiofrequency ablation generators, and irrigation pumps.
The EP Map system received its European CE mark in 2016 and is marketed in Europe and other regions worldwide. The new round of funding will be used to enhance the technology of EP Map and accelerate its commercialization in the United States.
Manfred Piechura, Founder and CEO of EP Map, stated, “We launched EP Map in 2014 with the goal of creating a modern, user-friendly EP system that hospitals around the world can use to provide their patients with state-of-the-art care. We are delighted to partner with Ajax Health to achieve the company’s next phase of objectives and to integrate Ajax Health’s expertise into EP Map.”
Ajax Health, founded in 2017 and headquartered in California, USA, is a clinical-stage medical device company. According to Crunchbase data, the company has completed four rounds of funding to date, raising a total of $315 million. A public spokesperson for Ajax Health stated that the company primarily focuses on technologies related to cardiac electrophysiology, including diagnostic tools, therapeutic products, and structural heart intervention technologies, with an emphasis on the ENT field.
This is not the first time Ajax Health has made a move in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. In 2017, Ajax Health invested $45 million in EPIX Therapeutics (then known as Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics). EPIX Therapeutics and its radiofrequency-based cardiac ablation platform were acquired by Medtronic in January 2019, with the acquisition amount undisclosed.
Concurrent with this investment round, several Ajax Health executives will join the EP Map management team, including Doug Koo, who will serve as Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director of EP Map.
Doug Koo stated, “EP Map technology has left a deep impression on us. We are delighted to collaborate with Manfred Piechura and his team, helping them elevate their technology to new heights.”
