VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on October 28, 2019, Sensely, a digital health and insurtech platform headquartered in San Francisco, California, announced it had secured $15 million in financing. The round was led by Aflac Corporate Ventures, the venture capital arm of Aflac, with participation from NMC, Nippon Life Insurance Company, Susquehanna International Group, Sojitz Corporation, Zuelling Pharma China, and Silicon Valley Bank.
Sensely, founded in 2013, has developed an AI chatbot platform that provides insurance services and medical resources to health plan members and patients. Sensely’s scalable platform technology combines the empathy of human conversation with the efficiency and scalability of technology, offering enterprises and members a novel way to interact.
This capital injection comes at a time of growing market demand for Sensely’s AI chatbot platform. The platform employs a voice-enabled conversational interface that can be integrated into enterprises’ existing technical infrastructure. Sensely currently serves corporate clients in the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, China, Japan, Switzerland, and Australia. Its clients leverage the platform for symptom checking, insurance eligibility verification, claims management, medication management, and remote patient monitoring.
The platform also helps patients plan health actions, provides next-step recommendations based on symptom assessment results, and connects patients with information sources.
Sensely’s global team, with offices in London and San Francisco, provides virtual assistant solutions to insurers, pharmaceutical companies, and hospital systems worldwide.
The newly injected funds will be used to enhance Sensely’s AI chatbot platform and expand its market presence. Currently, the company is adding multilingual capabilities to its AI platform to cater to the global market.
Adam Odessky, CEO and Co-Founder of Sensely, stated, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with our new investment partners. While we are satisfied with the progress made over the past year, we still face many significant challenges. This funding will ensure that we can continue to serve our existing partners while continuously updating our platform.”
As is well known, entrepreneurship in the health insurance sector is particularly challenging. Earlier this year, two other companies in this field also announced the completion of their financing rounds. In February 2019, Rightway Healthcare announced that it had raised $8 million for its patient care navigation tool designed for employee populations. In the same month, Eden, a primary care and insurance navigation platform, also announced that it had secured $10 million in Series A funding.
