On the afternoon of November 1, 2019, the second Shuidichou “111 Small Acts of Kindness Day” Charity Gala was held at the Jingyuan Art Center in Beijing. Themed “Living for Good,” this year’s gala called on diverse stakeholders to engage in charitable initiatives through various means, spreading love and warmth while expanding the network of goodwill.

Shen Peng, Founder and CEO of Shuidi Inc., delivered a keynote address. He stated that technology itself does not truly change the world; rather, it creates greater social value when infused with human warmth. As a social enterprise, Shuidi has been dedicated since its inception to addressing user needs and alleviating pain points faced by the general public. With its growing scale, the company is poised to generate even greater social impact. We aim to give back to society more effectively while maintaining sustainable profitability, working together to make society progressively better.

Xu Hanhan, Partner at Shuidi Inc. and General Manager of Shuidi Chou and Shuidi Public Welfare, shared the company’s achievements over the past year and its “Public Welfare+” cross-sector collaborations across various fields. To date, Shuidi Chou has connected the small acts of kindness from 280 million users, raising RMB 23.5 billion in donations to assist hundreds of thousands of families burdened by serious illnesses. Meanwhile, the “Innovation for Good Matrix” channels goodwill from numerous commercial and public welfare organizations, weaving a network dedicated to social good. Together with like-minded partners, it leverages respective areas of expertise to drive innovation and co-create social value.

China’s Major Disease Assistance Program: Grand Launch

Over the past three years since its establishment, Shuidichou has remained committed to its original mission of “ensuring access to medical care for all Chinese families.” At the current “111 Small Acts of Kindness Day” charity gala, Shuidichou and Shuidi Public Welfare were officially invited to join the “China Critical Illness Assistance Project” as co-organizers. This project is hosted by the China Population Welfare Foundation and jointly supported by the China Institute for Philanthropy at Beijing Normal University. It is a national-level initiative established under the guidance of the National Health Commission to better achieve the goal of “Healthy China.”

Dean Wang Zhenyao of the China Philanthropy Research Institute, Deputy Secretary-General Zhao Benzhi of the China Population Welfare Foundation, and Xu Hanhan, General Manager of Shuidichou and Shuidi Public Welfare, took the stage to jointly launch the initiative. Dean Wang Zhenyao stated on site, “Shuidichou’s participation in the China Critical Illness Assistance Project represents a major revolution in leveraging science and technology to address social issues. As this platform continues to improve, I am confident that Shuidichou will play a significant social role. I hope everyone will join us and become close partners of Shuidichou.”

Over the next two years, the “China Critical Illness Relief Project” will leverage the technological capabilities of the Shuidichou platform and harness the robust advantages of Shuidi’s fingertip philanthropy. By uniting caring individuals from all sectors of society and mobilizing diverse social resources, the project will jointly launch assistance and relief initiatives for economically disadvantaged patients with critical illnesses across China. It will provide targeted support to registered impoverished households and populations in deeply impoverished areas, continuously enhance the online fundraising capacity of public welfare organizations, safeguard hundreds of millions of families through multi-dimensional measures, and contribute to the national campaign against poverty through health-focused interventions.

Three Major Plans Unveiled: Chuangyi Matrix Upgraded Again

At this year’s “111 Xiaoshan Day” Charity Gala, Shuidichou and Shuidi Public Welfare jointly launched the “Whale Baby Initiative,” a program dedicated to supporting children aged 0–18 suffering from serious illnesses. The initiative aims to raise RMB 100 million in medical funding for 1,000 financially disadvantaged children with critical conditions over the coming year. To strengthen media oversight, the “Woodpecker Initiative” was introduced as a convenient channel co-established by Shuidichou, Shuidi Public Welfare, and national media outlets, promoting collaborative development and advancement within the critical illness assistance sector. Additionally, Shuidichou and Shuidi Public Welfare partnered with public security authorities across China to launch the “Clear Stream Initiative,” enhancing police-enterprise cooperation to comprehensively safeguard the integrity of the critical illness assistance industry and jointly purify the online environment. These three major initiatives demonstrate decisive action, facilitating the healthy development of Shuidichou and enhancing its corporate social value.

It is reported that over the past year, Shuidichou and Shuidi Public Welfare have actively built a “Public Welfare Innovation Matrix” connecting charitable organizations, commercial entities, media, the general public, and other sectors of society, thereby fostering a business ecosystem and social environment rooted in social good. At the ceremony, Shuidichou and Shuidi Public Welfare officially presented the “Social Good Public Welfare Award” to relevant partners, expressing gratitude for their dedicated efforts to integrate deeply into everyday public welfare scenarios. These initiatives have enabled more people to recognize the value of public welfare and participate in related actions, leveraging internet technology to raise public awareness and reshape the landscape of philanthropy.

Yang Zebiao, an ordinary fundraiser and recipient of the “Goodness Energy Award,” shared his family’s journey in fighting disease at the event. As the father of a child with leukemia, he once raised nearly 300,000 yuan in life-saving funds through Shuidichou (Waterdrop Crowdfunding). Now, one year and three months post-transplant, his son is in excellent condition. “Everything I did stemmed from the immense help I received from kind-hearted individuals during our most helpless moments. Today, I am willing to do my utmost to assist other patients, passing on this love and kindness. As a father, I also hope my actions will remind my son that we have received abundant love; therefore, like his dad, he should always remember that paying it forward is our greatest responsibility for the rest of our lives,” Yang said emotionally.

Exploring New Cross-Boundary Approaches: Making Philanthropy Cool

To reshape public perceptions of critical illness assistance and traditional philanthropy, Shuidichou and Shuidi Public Welfare have actively sought to expand the boundaries of charitable engagement. In the first half of this year, they integrated philanthropic concepts into sports scenarios, enabling running, mountain climbing, and walking to become accessible ways for ordinary users to participate in public welfare. Notably, guided by the concept of “A Different Young Philanthropy,” they innovatively brought charitable initiatives to music festivals, making philanthropy as trendy, cool, and simple as a love for music.

The “111 Small Acts of Kindness Day” charity gala innovatively opened with a situational drama, narrating the story of individuals striving alone in urban settings who gradually lower their emotional defenses and stop isolating themselves through small acts of kindness, thereby paying tribute to all users who have shown compassion on the Shuidichou and Shuidi Gongyi platforms.

The rock band 8772, composed of individuals with rare diseases and disabilities, along with the “Mask Elves” ensemble under the Xiaobai Chuntian initiative—formed by children with leukemia and compassionate musicians—also delivered captivating performances on site. They firmly believe that illness is merely a condition, that all people are born equal and deserve dignity, and they encourage everyone to use music as a medium to give voice to extraordinary lives.

At the “111 Small Acts of Kindness Day” Charity Gala, Shuidichou aims to create an inspiring atmosphere woven with love, warmth, emotion, and motivation, helping all attendees better understand the positive energy of “small acts of kindness,” recognize that “the impact of kindness is greater than you imagine,” and promote the concept that “small acts of kindness can make a big difference.”
