This year marks Eli Lilly and Company’s debut at the second China International Import Expo (CIIE), held from November 5 to 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). As a “new friend” of the CIIE, Eli Lilly came well-prepared—not only unveiling blockbuster new products, but also comprehensively showcasing its high-quality manufacturing capabilities, innovative solutions, and local R&D collaboration cases.
New Drug Spotlight: Non-Stop Highlights
At this year’s China International Import Expo (CIIE), the spotlight at Eli Lilly’s booth was firmly on two blockbuster new drugs recently approved for market launch: Trulicity® (dulaglutide), a once-weekly medication that helps patients manage diabetes in a scientifically grounded manner, and Taltz® (ixekizumab injection), a new treatment for psoriasis that received approval in September, keeping pace with its global launch.
Innovation means more than just focusing on the introduction of high-quality medicines. At this year’s CIIE, Eli Lilly also showcased its achievements in healthcare innovation solutions in recent years, creating an innovative model for digital healthcare through cross-sector collaboration:
Lilly’s Connected Care Program (LCCP): In 2017, Lilly partnered with Tencent and DXY to launch a seamlessly integrated comprehensive diabetes management solution in China. Last year, LCCP was further upgraded through collaborations with the Bethune Public Welfare Foundation and the Chinese Diabetes Society of the Chinese Medical Association, bringing greater benefits to both patients and healthcare providers.
AI-Force Youzhi Project: Since 2018, Eli Lilly has joined forces with Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital and Shuguang Hospital of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to leverage artificial intelligence and internet information technologies for comprehensive management of diabetes and its chronic complications. At this year’s China International Import Expo, many professionals had the opportunity to closely engage with and experience the latest mobile internet-based blood glucose management solutions, as well as AI- and big data-driven diabetic retinopathy screening devices.
Major Event, Innovation Brings Surprises
Leveraging the China International Import Expo (CIIE) as a platform, Eli Lilly hosted a series of concurrent events, inviting media representatives, industry professionals, and partners to review the company’s century-long history. These initiatives aimed to deepen public understanding of Eli Lilly’s steadfast commitment to the Chinese market and to witness significant moments in new product collaboration signings.
Meanwhile, Mr. Fang Borui, General Manager of Eli Lilly and Company (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., also discussed the pipeline status of Eli Lilly’s insulin filling plant in Suzhou. Once officially operational, the facility will supply products to markets worldwide.
2019 marked the beginning of Eli Lilly’s second century in China. At this pivotal historical juncture, by participating in the Second China International Import Expo (CIIE), Eli Lilly reaffirmed its commitment to being “Rooted in China, Serving China.”
Julio Gay-Ger, President and General Manager of Eli Lilly China, stated, “It is precisely the vast potential market opportunities in China and the favorable government business environment that have strengthened Eli Lilly’s confidence and determination to invest and expand its operations in the country. This year, as Eli Lilly embarks on a new century of its history, we will look to the future and actively collaborate with partners across all sectors to accelerate the introduction of globally leading products and contribute to the building of a Healthy China.”
