Peptide Synthesis and Bioanalytical Solutions Provider
On November 11, 2019, VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned via Business Wire that Mesa Laboratories announced the acquisition of Gyros Protein Technologies (GPT).
GPT’s acquisition price is $180 million in cash consideration, subject to subsequent adjustments based on the purchase price. This acquisition by Mesa will add $37 million to $40 million in revenue within the first 12 months (approximately 55% of which is recurring revenue), and achieve double-digit organic revenue growth in the following years, excluding the impact of purchase accounting.
MesaLabs, founded in 1982 and headquartered in Colorado, USA, is a global innovator in technology. The company acquires, develops, manufactures, and sells high-quality instruments and accessories, dedicated to addressing some of the most critical quality control challenges in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial safety, environmental, and food and beverage industries.
Mesa delivers products and services through five divisions—Sterilization and Disinfection Control, Biopharma Development, Instruments, Cold Chain Monitoring, and Cold Chain Packaging—to help customers ensure product integrity, enhance the safety of patients and workers, and improve quality of life around the world.
GPT, headquartered in Uppsala, Sweden, was formed through the merger of Gyros AB (founded in 2000) and Protein Technologies (founded in 1985). It is a leading provider of peptide synthesis and bioanalytical solutions. GPT combines Gyros’ nano-scale immunoassay technology with Protein Technologies’ expertise, leveraging over three decades of specialized knowledge in instrument manufacturing and peptide synthesis.
The company is dedicated to helping scientists in academia and industry enhance the performance and productivity of biomolecules in research, drug discovery, preclinical and clinical development, and bioprocessing applications. As its integrated services and sales organization expands globally, GPT remains firmly committed to supporting customers worldwide in accelerating the discovery, development, and manufacturing of safer biotherapeutics.
Gary Owens, President and Chief Executive Officer of MesaLabs, stated, “GPT introduces an innovative protein analysis method for quality control and process development in biopharmaceuticals. The Gyrolab immunoassay solution leverages a validated microfluidic-driven platform to enhance reproducibility and throughput while minimizing sample volume and manual handling.”
“The company also delivers the highest-quality peptides through its leading peptide synthesis platform, which enables the production of longer and more complex sequences. This capability is critical for many applications, such as therapeutic peptides and neoantigen therapies. We believe that adopting the Mesa Way for continuous improvement will help the GPT team continue its rapid commercial and operational expansion.”
GPT President Dan Calvo added, “We are proud of our achievements in improving the biologic therapy development process. Our success is built on superior technology and close customer support, and we see the same spirit of innovation at Mesa. We look forward to collaborating with the Mesa team to expand our application offerings and deepen our level of customer support.”
