VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that on November 15, 2019, Gastro Health announced the acquisition of Gastroenterology Associates of Northern Virginia (GANV), expanding its business presence into the Mid-Atlantic region. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Dr. Ahmed Hegab, GANV’s Medical Director, will serve as Vice President of Clinical Affairs for Virginia at Gastro Health, while GANV’s Chief Financial Officer, Teresa Strausbaugh, will assume the role of Vice President of Operations at Gastro Health.
This marks Gastro Health’s third acquisition outside its South Florida headquarters. The company acquired Birmingham, Alabama-based Southeast Gastro in April of this year and Seattle-based gastroenterology practice Puget Sound in September.
Gastro Health, established in 2006 and headquartered in Miami, Florida, is a leading gastroenterology group in the United States. Comprising top physicians and specialized healthcare professionals from South Florida, Gastro Health specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, nutritional issues, and digestive system diseases.
Gastro Health is the largest board-certified medical group in Florida, employing some of the nation’s top gastroenterologists, pediatric gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons, and allied health professionals, and operating accredited and licensed ambulatory surgery centers. Currently, Gastro Health has more than 500 employees, including 100 providers, and maintains treatment rooms, specialty pharmacies, and endoscopy centers, offering services such as anesthesia, medication dispensing, infusion therapy, imaging, and pathology.
GANV was established in 1998, dedicated to partnering with patients and providing high-quality medical care. The GANV team consists of 18 board-certified physicians, 8 physician assistants, and 60 support staff, specializing in gastrointestinal and hepatic healthcare services.
GANV physicians hold leadership positions at Inova Fairfax (GE Laboratory, Advanced Endoscopy Center), Fair Oaks Hospital, the Medical Advisory Board, and medical association committees, and serve as clinical faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. Many of these physicians are featured in the “Top Doctors” lists of Washingtonian Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine, and Arlington Magazine.
As the population of Northern Virginia grows and diversifies, GANV provides patients with physicians from diverse age groups and racial backgrounds. GANV’s physicians are proficient in multiple languages and partner with LanguageLine Solutions to offer support in over 200 languages at no additional cost to patients.
Joseph Garcia, CEO of Gastro Health, stated, “We are delighted to partner with GANV. Their emphasis on quality care and patient experience aligns closely with our mission. GANV is a respected organization that will serve as our platform in the Mid-Atlantic region.”
GANV Medical Director MD Ahmed Hegab stated, “Collaboration has always been a key factor in our success. Physicians today need to unite more than ever to survive in the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape and continue delivering optimal patient care. Our partnership with Gastro Health will provide us with the resources necessary for growth.”
