On November 18, Tianjin Municipality and Weiyi Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Tianjin to jointly advance poverty alleviation efforts in the regions paired with Tianjin for assistance, and to consolidate and enhance the effectiveness of healthcare security in these assisted impoverished areas. At the signing ceremony, Weiyi Group donated 10 sets of “Weiyi Mobile Hospitals,” valued at RMB 30 million, to the regions paired with Tianjin for assistance. These mobile hospitals include intelligent diagnostic and treatment systems, medical collaboration systems, intelligent inspection and testing systems such as cloud-based mobile clinic vehicles, cloud Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and health maintenance systems, as well as pharmaceutical and consumable supply systems, all intended to support the “Internet + Health Poverty Alleviation” initiatives in the recipient regions.
It is reported that this marks the first comprehensive introduction of a digital health platform in Tianjin’s paired assistance initiatives, aimed at addressing the fundamental medical security concerns related to poverty alleviation under the “Two No Worries and Three Guarantees” framework. Under the agreement, Tianjin will deepen its close collaboration with WeDoctor Group, leveraging the digital health platform to actively promote “Internet + Healthcare Poverty Alleviation” efforts in impoverished areas including Gansu Province, Chengde City in Hebei Province, Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province, Hotan Prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Qamdo in Tibet Autonomous Region. These initiatives seek to innovate healthcare poverty alleviation models and enhance local medical and healthcare security standards.
Targeted poverty alleviation is one of the three critical battles that must be won to achieve the comprehensive construction of a moderately prosperous society. Currently, the fight against poverty has entered a crucial stage of decisive battle and final victory. Poverty caused or exacerbated by illness is one of the primary drivers of impoverishment. To consolidate the achievements of poverty alleviation, it is essential to strengthen the security system designed to prevent residents in underdeveloped regions from falling into or returning to poverty due to illness.
East-West Poverty Alleviation Collaboration and Pairing Assistance are major strategic initiatives deployed by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to promote coordinated regional development and achieve the goal of common prosperity. Both parties have clarified that they will leverage WeDoctor’s internet hospital platform to enhance collaboration between medical institutions in Tianjin and those in assisted areas, introducing high-quality medical resources from Tianjin and across China to provide impoverished households with services such as online health consultations and remote diagnosis and treatment. Meanwhile, the “21st Century Barefoot Doctor” Western Medicine General Practice Auxiliary Diagnosis and Treatment System and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Huatuo Cloud Medical Platform will be fully implemented in township health centers and village clinics in the recipient areas, thereby improving the service capabilities and standards of grassroots physicians. In addition, WeDoctor will list distinctive, high-quality health products from the assisted regions on its WeDoctor Health Mall, actively promoting poverty alleviation through consumption.
In recent years, WeDoctor Group has consistently leveraged the internet to support health-oriented poverty alleviation efforts. By establishing a three-tier intelligent service network—spanning county, township, and village levels—with integrated hardware and software solutions, the group has enhanced the overall standard of medical security and operational efficiency within county-level healthcare systems. Furthermore, in collaboration with local authorities, WeDoctor has established health-focused poverty alleviation relief funds to assist individuals who have fallen into or returned to poverty due to illness. These initiatives strengthen the social safety net for poverty alleviation through health measures, address basic livelihood needs for affected populations, and pioneer a replicable and sustainable new model of “Internet + Healthcare-Driven Poverty Alleviation.”
Currently, this model has been implemented in provinces and municipalities including Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan, and Sichuan, extending its reach to nationally designated poverty-stricken counties such as Yonghe, Daning, Qingjian, Zizhou, Guangshan, and Zhaojue, achieving remarkable results. Data shows that within two and a half years, in Guangshan County’s 21 townships, the proportion of households falling into or returning to poverty due to illness in five of these townships decreased from nearly 42% to below 27%. In recognition of his innovative contributions to poverty alleviation through “Internet + Healthcare,” Liao Jieyuan, Chairman and CEO of WeDoctor Group, was awarded the 2019 National Award for Poverty Alleviation.
It is understood that this project is one of the six projects implemented by WeDoctor Group in Tianjin. Both parties are accelerating the promotion of innovative businesses, including the North China Headquarters of WeDoctor Group, the "Digital Health Community," and the Internet Hospital.
Heads of the Municipal Government General Office, the Municipal Cyberspace Administration, the Municipal Health Commission, the Municipal Healthcare Security Administration, and the Municipal Cooperation and Exchange Office attended the strategic cooperation signing ceremony.
